| Greetings All!! I have a bass guitar with Magnum 2 electronics (graphic eq). I was wondering if anybody had a schematic for this system. I am trying to fix one that is totally dead.

I don't have an actual schematic. Could you define "totally dead" as that is an indicator of what may be wrong. As example, no hiss, no scratching when moving the pots, nothing (as you say totally dead) is most often a broken battery lead, or the switch on the input jack not turning the circuit on. The first thing I would check is that with a jack plugged in that there is indeed 9v at the circuit board where the power leads hit the board.
Most of the failures I have seen with Ovation electronics (for the solid bodies) have been mechanical rather than actually a component failure. If there IS power at the board there should be some audible hiss or some scratching when you move the pot or sliders. If there is, the next place to look is the actual pickup selector. If there isn't power on the board, then the input jack may be the culprit.

| Ok, when I peg the volume control I can hear an increase in hiss. There are noises when I move the silder pots as well. I found that a pair of black wires, one from the neck pickup and one from the bridge pickup are soldered together but are not connected to the PCB. I figured they were grounds and soldered them to the ground trace on the PCB with no avail. One strage thing is that when I strum the E string, the hiss gets louder and decays with the string decay. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I would start with basics. Check to insure each of the pickups works. Disconnect them from the switch and get them to an amp. You can use a meter, but actually hearing them, even just using alligator clips is enough to know they work.
Next, you hook them back up, insure they are connected to properly. The PCB is labeled for bridge and neck. If you are getting hiss, and it changes with volume and you are getting scratches when you move the sliders... I'd lean towards a mechanical failure. If you have a scope and a signal gen that makes life a lot easier.
If you have someone that works on guitars, these are pretty straight forward and they should be able to test up to figuring out which component is failing. |

Do you know were I can get the potentiometers for both the volume and equalizer? I see none of them are standard pots (and BTW, thanks to BruDev for the schematics, it confirmed to me it is the pots that were the problem of no sound, only static). |
