Last evening while playing, I kept hearing a popping from the amp every few minutes as if the cord had a short or faulty connection. I swapped it out, but the problem persisted, so I figured I'd just deal with it later. Then I happened to bump the Dunlop straplock in the forward position next to the next and discovered I could recreate the noise. Apparently, the unique pickup on the Viper was picking up the sound of the straplock device moving within the strap button. I removed the straplocks and the noise distraction disappeared.

make sure the lock washer & washer that sandwiches the strap itself is very snug. If the strap is not very securely pinned by the lock washer on the post it will cause vibration when placed in the button....

y'might wanna consider a rubber flatwasher between the strap and the Dunlop metal flatwasher just t'get things nice & snug.

I use a nice thick padded Levy's leather strap and I actually had to "compress" the whole assembly down to get the lockwasher to engage on the post.

Garden hose O-ring type washer works.

you can also fashion a leather washer as well...

I, too, use thick straps, in this case, one of the OFC straps purchased through Al. The leather has to be significantly compressed to affix the retaining pin. The rattle was inside the strap button where the post had a little room to move. It only occurred intermittently when tension was taken off the strap. I'm sure this happens all the time with other guitars using Dunlops, but I've never noticed it being picked up through the electronics like on the Viper.
