I've seen him at the Continental in Austin several times. Sometimes you have to keep checking that there's only 3 guys on stage the band sounds so huge. What doesn't come across on his albums is what a great guitar player he is. He's a master of the rhythm amd lead guitar at the same time deal. I've been listening to his live album on the flight over to LA today (Writing this from Marina Del Rey) The live version of Chocktaw Bingo is rapidly turning into my favourite track of all time. Hope the hotel has PBS.

Paul,
He does a screaming 10 minute Chocktaw Bingo during this set. Out-Friggin-Standing.

Why he isn't a household, especially among guitar players, is beyond me.

I first caught him with "We Can't Make It Here Anymore" (warning: NSFR). Didn't catch the ACL special (for some reason, ACL is shown up here about once a year) but would've liked to if he's that good a player.
