I own one and enjoy it's sound, sustain, crafts-man-ship and durability as it generally is always in tune, just have to tweek a string or 2.

Some true bluegrassers have told me the Ovations don't sound like "real" mandos to them, ya know compared to gibson f-holes and all that. There certainly is a difference (Ovation mandos are not very loud, by comparison). Just like Ovation guitars, which almost always play second fiddle acoustically, when plugged in the Ovation mandos can't be beat. how do ovation mandos sound, by the way? One word of caution, you get what you pay for. There is a reason a celeb mando costs $400. I went through the entire product line. Started with an Applause mando. The neck seperated from the bowl. Upgraded to a celeb mando. The top collapsed about 1/2 inch. I had to remove frets to make it playable. Upgraded to a USA mando which was very nice indeed, but rather plain-jane. Finally stepped into a Book mando. That one's a keeper. Dave

The comments I got in the beginning was that the mandos were between an A and F style and that was NOT nowhere's land but more the best of both worlds, and you can plug in! I think I'd prefer a solid top. My Collings is spruce with birdseye B&S in natural finish. It's beautiful.
