Joined: December 2003 Posts: 1071 Location: Carle Place, NY | I tried to alert Moody to this, but he seemed uninterested so I'll post it for all of you, especially those who are going to NAMM this weekend. Steve Morse, who is the BEST guitarist to EVER walk the earth, is playing two shows this weekend. Friday is at The Coach House in San Juan Capristano and Saturday is in San Diego at the North Park Theater. Anyone who plays guitar can fully appreciate Steve's enormous talents. You don't have to be familiar with his music to enjoy the concert. I guarantee you that you will be blown away when you see and hear him play. For any of you that are going to NAMM, do whatever you need to do to get your butt into a seat at one of these concerts. Go to stevemorse.com for more info. I'm posting this for the benefit of all of you fellow guitarists who are lucky enough to be in SoCal this weekend- DO NOT MISS SEEING STEVE MORSE LIVE, EVEN IF YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF HIM OR DON'T KNOW A NOTE OF HIS MUSIC!!! And Moody, if you rather eat lobster at Witko's expense than see one of these concerts, you're beyond hope.

He does huge world tours with that band which is why it's rare that he does concerts of his own music nowadays. All the more reason to see him while you have the opportunity. Read THIS for more info about Steve Morse.

He now is a regular member of Deep Purple and does world-wide tours that take 6 months to complete, and sometimes more. Once every two years, he takes some time to do a short tour where he plays his own music, with guys he loves to do it with, who also happen to be fantastically talented as well, at small venues, in front of his most faithful fans. He goes all out for these shows to make sure that each note of each song is a work of art. There's a huge difference between the DP tours and these small relatively local Dixie Dregs/Steve Morse band gigs. The DP tours is where he makes his living. The DD/SMB tours he does for the fun of it and for the sole benefit of his long-time fans. The energy level at the concerts is physical and palpable. Every time I see him in concert, I feel a renewed appreciation for being a man at this time, on this planet. I'm not religious, but Steve's talents in concert help me to understand the incredible miracle of human life and that we must be here for some purpose, even if it is merely for our own enjoyment of art and music. It pisses me off to see six pages of NAMM party B.S. here on this site along with "mystery box" crap without anyone realizing that Steve Morse will be in town for the NAMM show. It's not a coincidence that he scheduled the tour to be in SoCal at the same time as NAMM. He's not listed on any program, but you can be sure that he'll be at some of the planned events. Open your minds and your ears. The set list is posted on his site and it is an incredible showcase of his creative and virtuoso abilities. If none of you go to either of the shows, all I can say is that you're missing out on something that you will remember forever.

I got as excited as I get after seeing Preston Reed this summer, but others didn't seem to share it. A guy I work with drove 350 miles to see the Who and drove back to see the Rolling Stones the next night. I'm too cheap to buy a ticket to either.

Huge talent, and not just a riffin wanker playing speed-of-light scales (although he definitely can). Sounds...like he's always having fun.

Ritchie Blackmore is great, but Purple is as good as they ever have been with Morse playing lead. Purple's last two albums, "Bananas" and "Rapture Of The Deep" are outstanding. The group's songwriting has gotten better as they've gotten older. Roger

In the next day or so, we're going to be checking on tickets for the Acoustic Cafe, held on Friday night. Bobbo, we need to talk tomorrow to firm up some plans.
