I was curious as to what type of things I can do to keep my guitar in good working and playing order, being new I have not a clue. Also does the Op 30 change out for the 40 or 50 models or do you have to get all neew insides? Just curious how hard it would be to upgrade. JOE>

Keep it clean, in a stable environment and change the strings from time to time. Oh yeah, and play the hell out of it.

Nice, will do. I just heard that you can put this wax on the neck(the source said the book tells you to), and polish, what do these things mean for my guitar? Do I need to do this or should I have someone do this? Just want to protect the investment you know? JOE>

The biggest problem that you will likely have is that the satin finish will begin to polish up and turn glossy in the areas of wear. Mostly where your arm, the heel of your hand and fingers rest while playing. There's not much you can do to prevent this, so just expect it.

The neck doesn't necessarily need to be waxed, it's got kind of a satin feel to it also, but if you want a more glossy type neck then go ahead and wax.

The OP-30 can be exchanged directly for the OP-40 but not any of the others, at least from my memory of other discussions on this board. The only difference is that the OP-40 has a notch filter which is useful if you plug in for fighting feedback.

As Mr. Kaman said, keep it clean, in a stable environment, and play the hell out of it. It's an excellent learning guitar at a great price, but unfortunately as you saw from the ebay auction, resale value is not what it should be. So enjoy it, learn on it, and don't be too concerned about the cosmetics, and it will last forever.

Joe, you can get fretboard cleaner, guitar polish, string cleaner and all sorts of stuff for guitar care. That sort of stuff is great for family Christmas and birthday gifts if you can't talk your family into buying you guitars. It is not essential, however. I expect that you could overdo the polish on the neck and top of your guitar, so as Bill, said play it lots and clean it every once in awhile.

To keep it in good working order? That's a big question. Play it, and when you find something wrong fix it. Also, do searches here on hygrometers, tuning, humidifiers, cases, mineral oil, polish and strings. You'll find a bunch of stuff. Good luck.

I don't know how long you've been playing guitar, but don't be one of these guys that, keep it polished, and shiny, sitting in a case, and pulled out like a delicate wood model. Play the hell out of that bad boy. Change the strings often, strum it , pick it, pluck it, and plug it in. Ovations are durable and meant to last.

And playing it is the best way to get the top loosened up so it sounds even better. (He says as he sits in front of the computer when he should be playing guitar.)

Boy Your eyes are sharp. I think you're right.

Maybe it's one of those overseas knockoffs.
