I have just stepped into the world of Ovation ... to-day I purchased my FIRST Ovation model CC28 in Ruby Red.

Though not as extravagant as most of you have BUT a OVATION none the less and I feel pretty damn good about that ;) and it's my first acoustic guitar to boot!

I do own 2 electric guitars a Fender Strat and a Charvel RL 150 and have wanted to get a good acoustic but money shortages prevail so ya get what can get with WHAT cha got ...right ?

ANYWAYS ... I'm glad I found this site and I hope you all don't look down on a NOOB with a CHEAP Ovation :p

Welcome to the World of O! I doubt you will be sorry you found this place. Stick around and learn, like the rest of us NOOBs.

A most enjoyable place.

Celebs still offer a lot of guitar for the $. Welcome Showtime, there's a lot of good information, not to mention wit in these posts. (notice I didn't add the word "nit")

And Mike's right, there are no "cheap" Ovations.

Aloha Showtime and Welcome to the Kingdom of "O" where are the "Wizards of O" hang out. I don't claim to be one, I'm new here just like you, but unlike you, I have owned acoustic guitars for nearly 40 years now. Enjoy the OFC my friend.

Just read a few of the past posts. You'll see that none of us have any business looking down on anyone. Warning: this board may corrupt you. All I wanted was a CC 057 when I found this board and they destroyed what was left of my sanity.

I prefer the terms "Entry Level" and "Frugal Bargain".
I have and enjoy some of these as well as the "SWMBO doesn't need to know the full price".
Welcome.

Welcome Showtime! Here's a tip: when you get ready to upgrade, you might want to post something in Sell/Trade like "I'm looking for a..."

Most likely you'll get fantastic offers that will blow any store away.

Thanks ALOT guys ...

I'm not TO expeirenced with the Ovation sound but this one I bought sounded ALOT better then the other brands I tried out at the music store in that price range I was limited to.

I have no doubt, NO DOUBT that I made the right choice in buyin' this Ovation. My friends love it as much as I do and the Ruby Red is absolutely gorgeous. I'm HOOKED now and I'll defintely take your advice Captain when I decide to buy another ;)

Ovations are just wonderful. You are going to love yours. I can appreciate other guitars as well, but I will always have an Ovation on the rack.

The thing that I notice is that they are just so functional. Pretty much what you would expect from a guitar designed by engineers. I love the sound of course, but I also love the fact that they work so well. They stay in tune. The necks stay straight. They aren't particularly finickey about humidity. The backs are (naturally) just about bulletproof. They plugged in sound is effortless.

They will probably never be that well regarded for extremely delicate, technical playing. But for slaying away at a bar gig, or for pounding out cowboy chords in church, and doing it week after week without any doubt or drama, they are the best.

There are a bunch of very technical players that play Ovations. I never got that CC057, by the way. Ruby Red, too. My wife didn't buy it for me, so I bought a CS247 to spite her, traded it for the 99 Collector's and so on and so on.

Welcome to the club. I played Guilds exclusively for my acoustics until the day I tried an Ovation in a shop in Lincoln, NE. I walked out of there with an Elite and a Celebrity CC-157 (I think it was a for a back up. I've never regretted it, and that Celebrity was a sweet guitar!

Too right! I mean guys like Glen Campbell, Josh White, Waskel, and Marcel Dadi have never been exactly known for being tenderwith a guitar....

But you're right, they're as close as a good sounding guitar will ever be to indestructable. Lord knows, I'm the semi-official tester! I got my Balladeer sometime in the mid-70's. (we all know the 70's were everything the 60's claimed to be  ) It still looks pretty good at a distance, unlike the owner. (Most overheard comment when I stroll the beach at night, " cheezit! Fat cop on patrol!")

Welcome Showtime, you'll never get too much respect from guitar snobs, but you can take comfort by drowning out their Wimptone guitars... that is, when you get your first deep body Ovation. With the shallow bowl, all you can do is smile down the bridge of your nose when everone's plugged into the big PA and yours is the only guitar NOT feeding back.

Hi, Showtime--
Welcome from your sisters here in the club, too; I just gave my son a Celebrity for Christmas--plays really nice, sounds fine. (Its' playability impressed friends who play more expensive non-Ovations.) No need to apologize for your axe--my first guitar was little more than a cheese box with rubber bands, but it got me started; you are already much further ahead of where I began.
This is a great place to get lots of good information about your new acquisition; but don't let them talk you into string tubes unless you're absolutely sure you need them! ;)

What a joy to play and I'm glad I made the decision to get an acoustic and that acoustic to be an Ovation ... I won't EVEN tell you guys what I was lookin' at gettin' in the acoustic field ;-)
