The guitar also has a soundport on the side (bass) of the guitar (ala Bauerhillboy) that directs a bit of the sound towards the player.

Their X series which contain high pressure laminate [HPL] materials are formica in some form or another. X series models like the LXM and DXM, for example, have HPL tops, backs and sides. Once made in the U.S., most are now made in Mexico!!! Yay!!! :pI can't believe that Martin would make something non-traditional. I mean, what's next...formica tops?

There is a speaker company making their enclosures out of Corian instead of MDF (the whole enclosure, not just the front baffle). The initial reviews rave over the their bookshelf speaker's ability to better produce and project in the lower frequencies (60Hz-120Hz IIRC). Forgive me for not being able to name the company, but I loaned the particular copy of Home Theater Magazine that had that write-up to a guy I work with. Beautiful speakers (and expensive) that supposedly sound great, too. Yeah, I know it's a stretch. But I though I would jump on that tangent and see how far it would take me. How about a Corian-bowled Adamas? Bad idea? Maybe. Cost prohibitive? Maybe not.

Oh, and I knew/know all about the HPL Martins...I just think it's funny that the hardcore Matrin-o-philes bag on Ovations for their "plastic" bowls while Martin puts out the formica topped guitars. I guess Martin doesn't seem to be interested in upholding any certain standard except the standard of no standards. I guess what I'm trying to say is that somewhere along the way in the custom shop someone should be willing to say no. But if money is no object, and a company is willing to do anything to please a customer, well...I guess that's that. I personally wouldn't want my company name on that thing. (like I said ... Just my opinion)

So the custom shop was probably just following instructions from Artist Relations. Also, it looked much better in person than it does in the photo. (This assumes you are rerferring to the alien guitar).

Sometimes it's about getting an audience off it's ass to feel some passion, some anger. Sometimes it's just about getting a giggle. And sometimes it's about redefining bad taste. After all, without knowing where bad taste starts, how can you know where good taste ends? "I never promised you a rose garden." and have no fear, your name will never be attached to this guitar anywhere but on these threads.... ;)
