I have read numerous threads about collectors, but I've never heard about anniversary models ... I didn't even know that it exists, until I saw one last night.

The guitar I saw was a shallow bowl with black finish. It has the gold foil label inside the sound hole, model AN35, and it says 35th Anniversary on the headstock. It has a OP24+ preamp. Personally, it looks more like an 1861 standard balladeer to me, with some upgrades [whatever that might be].

I took photos of the guitar with my cell phone, but I don't know how to post photos here. I will be more than happy to e-mail them to a fellow member who can post it here for me.

Does anyone know anything about them??

I have one of "The Anniversary" 1657 models.

it is a deep-bowl stereo, aged honey colored top, carved bridge/trc, herringbone binding, cross inlays, and it is a beautiful and fantastic sounding deep-bowl legend..

I like it much better than the sunburst 1619 that I had which was basically the same guitar, but I personally found it too flashy, the Anniversary that replaced it sounds and plays the same but is in my opinion "classier" looking.

Ovation also made commemorative models like the one you describe for different anniversaries of years in operation and specific models I believe.

I think I've seen 25th 30th and 35th models.

but as usual ymmv and icbw

There have been several "Anniversary" guitars. I'll try to summarize, others please fill in the gaps.

1976 (10th Anniversary) - Acoustic only and A/E anniversary Legends. Models 1157 and 1657.

1991 (25th Anniversary) - The 1991 Collectors series had "25 Years" written down the center of the peghead. It was a deep bowl Legend type guitar with herringbone trim.

1996 (30th Anniversary) - The famous "Book" series of instruments. Plus the 1996 Collectors guitar said "30th Anniversary" at the 12th fret.

2001 (35th Anniversary) - A balladeer type guitar in black or burgandy with "35th Anniversary" written down the center of the peghead.

I may have missed some others. Check the O-decoder.

Dave

Just an FYI, the anniversary model that I spotted is for sale. If interested, I'll provide you the info to be in contact with the seller.

BTW, thanks for the info Dave. It's cool to learn something new all the time, especially with Ovation guitars.

Dave's got it right with a slight addition. The 1976 Patriot model was the first collectors model although nobody knew it at the time.
The 1157/1657 were in the line for about 5 years. First only in the red reverse s/b and then later in natural.

Yeah, and I don't even get listed in the credits as a historian!
