Just need to see how to put strings on, and any ways you suggest to use when installing new strings. This is the first time I have tried this and don't wanna mess it up. I have heard something about a knot of some kind(???). Don't wanna be outof commision here. Thanks guys. JOE>

Shouldn't have to do a knot. You might find a thread on this with a search, but I couldn't tell you what to search for. I use the method from the Ovation manual. Pull the string through 1 1/2 inches, cut it and bend the last half inch. Pull it back through so the bent part is all that sticks through the peg. I always wind the first loop over the top of the end of the string and then the rest of the loops underneath it. You might also check the Ovation site and see if they have anything.

It's kinda hard to give good instructions in this format.
Try going to Frets.com
I'm sure they have long and detailed instructions there.

OK ... We've had a previous post on this, and everyone seemed to have a different idea as to how it should be done. So I've taken the libery to attach this link to a site with an illustrated stringing technique.

Here's another site that might help you. It has photographs to guide you through the process as well.

You dont have to use the "locking" method if you don't want to. If you dont do it right, it can look down right sloppy and ruin the look of a nice looking headstock. I have my Ovation strung with just the "around the pole" method. My new electric I used the locking method.

Here is how I do it. Put the string through the tuner and pull it tight. Then pull it off the fretboard about 5-6 inches at the 12th fret. be careful not to go more than 4-5 inches on the low E and A otherwise you'll have too many wraps for the big strings and it will look silly and be down at the base of the tuner pole. The other srtings will wrap about 3-5 times around using this method.

wrap the string BELOW the entry hole, not above.

The only time I had a problem with the plain old "around the pole method was when I screwed up and only had 2 wraps on the high E (1st string). It pulled out unexpectedly.

Here's a site with some nice graphics:

How to String a Guitar

Many folks recommend only changing one string at a time in order to avoid putting the neck through a relax-tension cycle.

I've found that I need to use the locking under method when using Elixers, they seem to slide out otherwise. Other than that I just put them in and crank, 2-3 wraps arounf the post.

I have been using locking technique all along. No problems or tuning issues.

The only guitars on which I don't use the locking technique have locking tuners. I try to have one wrap extra to allow for alternate tunings.
