Location: Portland, OR | Hello, I'm new to this board and excited to find it! I've had an 1867 legend for the past 12 years, and I suppose due to a lack of care, the bridge ripped off and the top cracked straight down the middle! It was pretty awful, especially since it was in its stand and I was sitting 5 feet away when it happend. At any rate, seems like good time for an upgrade. I've always loved the Elite model and am trying to narrow it down.. Are there any really good reasons to go for the 2078 over the 1778? Its about $450 difference, and the 2078 has the contoured body, AAA vs AA top and is more decorative.. Any other thoughts? I'm so excited that shops are selling these guitars way under MSRP.. the 2078 is going for about $1500 which is awesome. I think I payed 1200 for my 1867 back in '94..
Thanks for the help! |

I have the 1771LX which was a stretch for me but I'm glad I picked it and jumped into the LX line up. Like the boys say, don't pick one to save money. But the fancy details that come with the extra cash don't do it for me. I think the difference in top is nearly a moot point. So the contour bowl would be the most determining factor. I've never tried one. I'd have to like it a lot to add $450.
Trying them both would be the best advice, if it's possible. |

Play both. Get whichever one speaks to you. Get the most you can get at the outset. Definately get the LX model. The non-LX are no comparison. As far as the contour vs round, ornate vs plain, its all ice-cream.
The big problem is if you buy low, then you will be kicking yourself and paying much more later to switch it if you change your mind. As CWK said, if you buy high, it only hurts once and you have a nicer guitar for it. |
