hello ! i have a problem with the black plastic around the bridge - it seems to have seperated from the brass part.is this just a cosmetic issue ? i can't push it back down /over the brass part. do i need to relieve all string tension ? any help/advice would be appreciated . thanks for your time !

It is just a facia or cover but it does need to be secure so it won't buzz.

Push it back down for now and secure it better next chance to change strings.

Then post some pictures of what you have!
