Can any of you post a side by side comparison of the original Adamas blue with the newer blue. I'd like to see what the OFC guitar will look like compared to a 1687 reissue. There seems to be several shades of Adamas -8 blue out there, but it might just be different lighting or photographs.

Mark, I have tried a lot of adamas photos and it's really hard because of the metallic sparkle in the top. You really need to look at natural sunlight photos. The originals had only a very slight burst (slightly darker blue in the middle). Very subtle. That's what the OFC guitar will look like, according to Al. The first one of twelve they build as a proto seems to be a little darker in the middle, very much like the 1687 reissue. But I understand that will be changed on the other eleven OFC guitars. As far as I'm concerned, it looks good in almost any variation of burst. Dave

Wish the weather would clear up in New Jersey, so Al could take one of his pictures with his pickup in the background of the OFC guitar. The one he took inside with the cell phone cameral almost looks green.

Mark, I have worked in color design for 31 years in all areas of paint finishes for cars ,motorcycles guitars even the space shuttle and I can tell you that
PICTURES ARE NOT TRUE OF WHAT YOU WILL SEE WITH THE NAKED EYE .
Looking at different pictures of color do not tell you Shi*,.You must see color in person to be the judge of what your brain & eyes really see.
FACT::: Women are the best judge of color. GWB

The first Adamas I saw in Boise was when the Ute arrived. It's tough to find anything to compare in person. Dave's blue Adamases looked very similar, but I just haven't seen an original blue Adamas.

IF I SEE IT IN PICTURES, IT'S ACCURATE.

IF I READ IT IN PRINT, IT HAS TO BE TRUE.

AND EVERYTHING ON TV IS REAL TO LIFE.

I think, therefore I am stupid (if I believe any of the above).

I've got photos of 10 of the original 35 SlotHead's lined up in one place, at the same time, in the same light . . . if two of the blue one's were the same shade, it'd be alot.
Mine, I can pick out from the pack . . it's that different.

Current is a lot darker..."just the way we do it now".

My 1993 1685 (AD II 12-str), 12/04 1688 (AD I 12-str) and the 1687 Reissue (AD I 6-str)are all a lot darker than earlier ones I saw on Michael's walls. Frankly, I like the -7's.

Because you're working with light over dark and then adding all that sparkle you will always have variation. The trick is to fall in love with the one you have. (Just like something else but I forgot what that is)

I need to get one first. (Assuming you were talking about a blue Adamas.)

To Mark in Boise,

The 1688-8 that I had just accuired is definetly light blue outside with a dark blue effect on the reverse sunburst. It kinda looks like it was sprayed lt. blue at first with the dk. blue applied, then rubbed off to reveal the lt. blue under coat. With the glitter treatment on the top and back, it makes for one beautiful instrument.
