could it sound much different than a W597 and, if so, why?

Nice pictures, Dave. That thing shines like a mirror. I bet you can't eat peanut butter sandwiches while you're playing it.

I don't know. I need to come to hawaii and find out! The top, bowl, suspension ring, sound port and neck attachment are all different than W597 so I think they might sound somewhat different. This isn't the best sounding guitar I own (although it's damn nice), but it definately is the coolest looking in my opinion.

dave, are you speaking acoustically, plugged in or both? i would think plugged in it would be awesome.

it is cool looking. it would be a show-stopper on stage.

Plugged in has no meaning to me. All ovations sound great plugged in as far as I'm concerned. You wouldn't pay for a custom shop guitar like this because you liked the electronics. I did play around briefly with the VIP thing. Seems to work just fine. But for me it wouldn't matter if it had no electronics at all. Dave

okay. i ask about the acoustic vs. electric thing as it is of consequence to me because of gigging. and i do need to keep in mind that your statement about all ovations sounding good plugged in is probably accurate. i forget to remember that.

Cool looking guitar! I like the black nut/saddle. Is right side(in the pic) of the tear drop white or is it just the way the light is reflecting?

this will spoil the look but it would probably sound better with a bone saddle.

I'm gonna hafta bone up on this "suspension ring" thing. Obvoiously it's the way the top is attached to the bowl, but how & why???
Enquireing minds want to know.
.
Can't a bone saddle somehow be stained black?
.
That shiney surface sure shows off the geometry of the contour bowl nicely.

With a standard guitar the stiffest point is the 90 degree connection along the top/binding/body.
No Sound zone.

The flex ring seems to make the top independant and more able to move, generating sound.

The Adamas site has some graphics on it.

First things first-- That is awesomely Purdy! I'd be skeered that I'd get cigarette ashes on it, let alone Peanut Butter.
But I also must agree about the electronics... Even my GC057 sounds good plugged-in. (Not to put it down, but it is Plywood. And my 4861 SSB with a wood top sounds better... Or at least different.) And I play them all au natural. I only plug 'em in to annoy the neighbors. [kidding, maybe]
