Well, I haven't chimed in in a while, 'cause the computer's downstairs, (or at work) and I'm laid up in bed. I slipped on some ice, and broke my ankle. Leg, actually. A spiral fracture of the fibula, and a separation of some ankle bones. The doc said it would heal 'as is', but I'd be in a world of hurt in 5 years, so... Surgery. A metal plate on the fibula, and a screw to close a big gap in some ankle bones. No weight on it for 6 weeks, then the screw gets pulled, then crutches for another 3 months. My right foot too, which leaves driving out. I'm bored to tears. :(

Crawl downstairs, get on the computer, and order a laptop and wireless router...

And...

if you don't, make sure you grab a guitar before you crawl back upstairs...

A guitar and a computer--what more could you need? I had to have a plate in my wrist a few years ago after I fell and broke both bones in my arm. At the end of the "informed consent" talk with the doctor, I summarized it as "so my choice is dieing from AIDs or dieing in my sleep on the operating table, I choose to die in my sleep." You'll wake up like I did and you'll be fine with the plate, except for when they turn up the juice at the airport security.

Thanks all. I won't be getting a laptop, but I do have a guitar next to the bed. I thought about putting some more there, but don't want to push things if you know what I mean. Everyone here is going to get sick and tired of waiting on me hand and (broken) foot.

Moan once in a while. Trust me, it helps. If you can do it while pretending to be asleep, even better.

...and don't let anyone catch you heading downstairs to fix a snack. If they do, look at the floor, shaking your head ever so slightly, sigh, and say (just above a whisper, and while sighing if you can manage it), "I didn't want to be a burden on anyone...".

I wouldn't wish a Porsche on a guy with a broken right foot, although I know a bunch of people who own them and never drive them. That would be like having a bunch of nice guitars and a broken hand. You'll be fine. The surgery is much better than having a comminuted fracture reset without any pain killers. Just make sure you're out before they start cutting. Then do whatever your physical therapist says. They're the ones who do all the healing. The orthopods are just "really expensive carpenters", to quote one who worked on me.

I lay in a hospital bed for 3 months once with my busted leg in traction. The only good thing that came out of it was I read War and Peace, which is something that 99.9% of the world's population haven't done.
Get well soon - and practice the guitar like you've never been able to before. Just don't tap your foot, buy a metronome.

Sorry to hear of the break. I fractured my ankle six months ago, and am still dealing with the healing process. May yours be much quicker!

Don't let the boredom get you down brainslag. Take schroeder's advice and practice, practice, practice to get something positive out of the whole experience. Hope it heals well

Ouch! Good luck on the recovery.

Maybe its a good time to play more guitar. Since you can't get to a computer, I sure some of us would be happy to snail mail you some tabs, so at leat you cold learn some new songs. Any requests?

Doesn't a real Porsche require both feet? I guess unless it's spankin' new and has a F1 paddleshifter or something. I know no one here has a Porsche with an automatic...Right..?

Tabs are a good idea. I've just been plucking kind of aimlessly. I'll have to think about what I'd like to learn next.

Yes it's too bad but at least it's not your hand or wrist.

Doesn't ice and snow suck?
