My brother just gave me an Ovation Matrix 1738. The front has a few dried cracks in it... it's it work anything, or should I just throw it away?

If yo can determine if it has an aluminum neck or not, that might help you decide. The aluminum necks had the freboard and frets all as one piece making the frets NON replacable. WHen they wore out, the guitar was great for slide and a chip dop set. I had a 12 string with the real neck/.rosewood fingerboard and I LOVED that guitar. A cannon. Balanced sound and gpppd action. Problem was it self destructed. The bridge pulld off the soundboard and tooks a bot if the wood with it. Not worth repairing...

It WOULD make a great beach/camp guitar if still playable.

Most cracks in the surface are just in the lacquer, and it's not unusual to see them on Ovations. They do not affect the structural integrity or sound of the guitar.

If you are trying to sell it, you will probably only get a few hundred dollars for it at most. But it's worth keeping and playing if you are a player. If not, you might want to offer it up here since the folks here know and appreciate these guitars.
