Better is a subjective term. Different may be a better way of stating it. Both are great for fingerpicking....

Thanks!..but I know the difference.. I had heard an Adamas projects louder so my guess is it would probably be the most audible over my Legend. I found This 1981 Adamas 2 on cragslist for 600.00///////What a steal!!!! Thanks again!

An Adamas II will be noticeably crisper than your legend

I don't think it would be crisper. More deep end, more mellow. The Legend would have a brighter sound. At least that's the way it is with my Legend and Adamas.....

The Adamas is BIG BOOMING sound.
The Legend it depends on the bracing bowl depth.
Warm sounding seems to apply to A braced.
LX is brighter.

One id not better than the others.
Its just different.

Well thanks to everyone that replied...
I got my Adamas from Fed Ex today and in my opinion...
The Adamas blows my Legend out the water!!!
Sounds better! Looks better! Money well spent!
Thanks again!

They are similar but my UTE seems to be crisper on the highs as Tafkar noted. If I trim my nails I can tell the difference in tone on the e and b strings which to me is pretty amazing.

monte333,

Welcome to the club & congrats on the new Adamas…

You found a $600 Adamas on Craig's List that apparently slipped under the radar here on the board? We must be losing our edge… ;)

Have fun…

Here's a little history about me and the Ovation guitar. My dad comes home sometime in 89' and brings in this funny lookin guitar - plastic back - And at that time I hadn't even learned how to play, but it was a pretty sounding/looking guitar. LEGEND 1617 - He paid $400.00. Fast forward to 1993.... Learned to play..Bought a cheap Applause from a pawn shop for 175.00.. Not a goood guitar/but not the worse guitar...Fast forward to 2009 got a LEGEND Ovation ...GREAT ACTION... But started to reseach Ovation a little bit more and found out that they had a top of the line model guitar called the ADAMAS? So with Googles help... I Really... Didn't know what to think! Guitar Center promotes CelScrapties and -USA ELITES.. Wheres ADAMAS? Anyways I'm fast forwarding to 2010 ...and one morning I got up and searched Craigslist... I use a free auction site that combines all state/cities of Craigslist on one location... Anyways .. found-then-researched a 1981 ADAMAS 2.. She wanted 575.00... I talked to her and just because of the "STEAL" I agreed to wire money to her 600.00 w/ shipping, just so I'd be able to have a guitar that is numero uno ...yet an Ovation that probably 75% of the musical word has never heard of! Why? Good question! I love Taylors, and of course the Marrrrtys... but the day I recieved my ADAMAS... Im an Ovation guy! It's in my past.. my fist guitar... And in a way I love it when people say that not a real guitar - not all wood!! I just simply look at them and play...While my slim neck Ovation and me are playin as clean as summer breeze!... "All Woodin Guitar player Sam cant play as clean or as smooth... just because of his all wood/ fatneck GIBSON"... ANYWAYS got the ADAMAS and its opened my eyes wide open! TOOO bad Fender bought 75% of the company! I raed a blog where they laid of 51% of the workforce and are liquidating there American stock... Move in Celecrapies/Korea-China... Thanks for all the responses!

For what it's worth, not being a 'fingerpicker', although I do dabble occasionally (LOVE Bruce Cockburn, BTW)... Having both a Legend and an Adamas, I find that when fingerpicking, I have a lot more control over the Adamas simply because there is more volume related to input.

So you get a wider range of dynamics, which in turn allows you more leeway in relation to how you play, even at a lower skill level. The Adamas gives you more confidence to try things you wouldn't otherwise do on a guitar that is going to 'choke' when you strike the string in a less than perfect manner.

I would say, once you pick up the Adamas... you will NEVER look back!!
