Greetings - Is the 1981 Ovation case any better than the 1984 Ovation case? The 1981 is brown and the 1984 is black. I clearly can see that they are differetly made. I have to keep one of them for my Custom Balladeer. Which one would you suggest? thanks in advance - Phil

My guess is newer is better! These ovations cases are like tanks and the best case Ive seen for an acoustic... Both are excellent-got a favorite color?

My experience is that the black cases tend to be a bit better constructed, especially the interlocking metal lips that go around the case.

The earlier brown ones (with the larger overlapping latches...) tend to work better than the later ones and I have found the fit on the brown ones a bit sloppy occasionally... sometimes too loose, sometimes too tight.

Obviously, from a collector's point of view, you want the case the guitar was sold with, but if it's strictly a 'player', I would go with the black ones.
