You don't need a monitor with digital in. It can be two plain vga ins. Or you can get a $10 digital adapter and just use a plain vga plug. I know that you can put up to 5 cards, each with two outputs into your computer and mix digital and plain vga. I've connected up to 6 monitors at a time to one computer.

My prob is the 26" eats up 70% of the desktop space. Doesn't really leave room for a 2nd monitor unless I set the 2nd a little off to the side.

Actually, a 15 inch lcd would go nicely as a pallette monitor next to the 26 incher. You could also get an ergotron stand which could hold both monitors.

I do have one in the other room that the wife would be happy about me moving. Just not sure it would be a good fit.

Ummmmm...a pallette monitor??? Isn't that what you would typically use for something like Photoshop?

How do you mean it in reference to a DAW?

In a DAW you should be able to undock parts and move them to the other monitor. Say, tracks and mixer on one and everything else on the other.
Or, run the DAW on one and a softsynth or Reason or whatever on the other.

I started using two monitors in the studio a few years back. Don't know how I ever lived on one monitor. I had a pair of BenQ 19" monitors LCD's. The frame is only about 1/2" so spreading things across two monitors is a breeze. I also use Matrox video cards which allow for some really nice layouts.

I have heard the Matrox video cards were some of the best when it comes to dual monitors.

Don't know if the newer generations from Nvidia and ATI are optimized for this feature or not.
