Joined: April 2007 Posts: 11 | Hey, folks. I am piggybacking off another thread that showed this guitar on ebay: http://tinyurl.com/yrgcb9 ...and said it was a good deal. I may snag that if the seller will ship to Baghdad via APO. The same seller also lists this one for only $60 more-- is it worth shelling out only another $60 for it instead? http://tinyurl.com/292qs9 Thanks in advance for the advice. I love Ovations, but have experience with only a very few... JC

Also, the 6778 has chrome tuning knobs. I don't know what broke on yours, but I don't really trust the pearloid-whatever-they-are-made-of-knobs. The both have scalloped LX bracing, and OP-Pro Pre-amps. Both are Mid-Depth Bowls. So it may all be about aesthetics... Which one looks nicer to you. Since you are playing through amps anyway, (I'm guessing). Aw Hell, I've got a Celebrity that I bought cuz it has 15 holes... Also the Natural Solid Wood will age and get darker in a coupla decades. So pay the $60.

It is a 6778LX-VN if the extra letters identify why? I am going to ask the moderator to move this to general posting for more visibility. Thanks! Jeff

That being said, either one should be a very nice playing and sounding guitar (I've owned both 1777LX and 6778LX). You'll be happy either way.

Joined: November 2006 Posts: 2241 Location: Simpsonville, SC | The seller was confused when he originally posted the 1771LX, he had the same pictures as the 6778LX. I sent him a message and he corrected the 1771LX posting. It could be that he is confused on the 6778LX also! Either guitar would be a good choice. Good Luck!

Joined: April 2007 Posts: 11 | Well, natural selection has solved my dilemma! The 6778 has been purchased! As a note-- I found a thread that referenced it once I UTFSE on this site. Its a holiday edition of the 6778 with sound holes just on the bass side: http://tinyurl.com/2cj49u As for the 1771-- I like it, but the seller has indicated he won't ship APO because its too expensive. I wrote back to clarify to him that it is actually the same cost as shipping domestic by USPS, but have not yet received a response. If he will ship it here... I will buy it! Peace, and thanks, JC

Peace, and thanks, JC It's no more expensive to ship to get your guitar to you in Iraq. We shipped my son's J200 to him in Ramadi ... used USPS and it was $13 ... it gets to the APO address and the logistics folks handle it from there. Took about a week total. Just make sure it's in the smallest possible box ... ours was in a standard guitar box and it was 2" under the allowable max for the price. Playing for your brothers and sisters over there will bring them much joy and much needed relief from the rigors of being in a dangerous place. Keep your chin up and your head down. Lots of us here think daily about what you do. God Bless.

As for me and the other civvies (civilian contractors) we're not so bad ourselves generally! But we have a much easier "lifestyle" (if that's what you call living in a confined area with the same people for months on end and working six days a week!) than the troops. Although without saying too much-- the insurgents are "surging" back themselves, and we are running around in our helmets and armor a lot more as of late, ha ha! He responded to my note that he was going to see if they have another 6778LX and let me know, which I assume means that he verified I was right about the shipping being the same and was willing to ship to me here. Fingers crossed... Peace, JC

Joined: April 2007 Posts: 11 | Thanks again for all the help, and I'll get my address to you Lanaki for some great java. Speaking of which, I am taking a holiday to Java (Indonesia) starting Friday to see a buddy who is living the life over there. Should be good... Back to the guitars-- per the comments on the pearloid tuners, I wonder if the pictures are actually of the MORE upscale Elite C779LX-CCB. Compare that with the 1771LX in this catalog: http://www.ovationguitars.com/img/pdf/LXCatalog.pdf Of course, it would beg the question of what is being sold-- the 1771 or a C779LX, especially since the pic of the model number says "1771LX" on the eBay listing. I'll ask the buyer to clarify if I decide to go for that one. My guess (since the guy has a good 99+% positive feedback with around 1500 comments) is that he is just recycling pictures from other ads and mismatched them (especially with regards to BegginJM's note above). I still may make a play for this one... if natural selection doesn't steal it from me first, ha ha... JC
