...In an attempt to help some guy out in Wiscosin who has had serious medical problems and no insurance I agreed to buy his Deacon if no one else bid on it on ebay. So I am now unexpectedly the proud owner of a Deacon. Here is a slightly enhanced Photoshop photo; it's out of focus and way to dark so it couldn't be helped too much:

I'll probably have it some time late this week or early next week. What can you tell me about these guitars? Thank you.

Regards,

Tom

I find the necks on the Deacons and Breadwinners very comfortable and fast. Wide varety of sounds. If that one is as nice as advertised, you'll like it.

Doc,

Ovation used to have an entire instruction booklet on the controls on these guitars. They were the first to have "active" electronics (they take a 9 volt battery that goes in the back). Somebody on this board, about 4 years ago put them into an easily transferred those instructions into an easier file to print. I'll look for mine which is around here somewhere. My email is moody.pi@cox.net. Shoot me an email with your fax and I'll find my copy and fax it over to you.

What you have is a bone stock collectible. Best playing neck ever and as you will see, tonally alive. They are incredibly addictive...

Absolutely not...

I haven't had the funds or the talent to justify buying one of the Stock Deacons or Limiteds so I am content with refinishing or re-engineering some of the models.

The last one pictured is an actual Limited body taken down to bare wood and oiled. On it is a Deacon 12 string neck. The electronics are the Seymour Phat Cats. The pots and pups are the same chosen for the Hamer Newport 12 string - and in fact were wired by the Hamer guys (a benefit of hanging out with this Club).

It is my 2005 version of the Deacon 12. It's a mutt and I love it.
