Very sad, but a good age and a great body of work left behind him. Another great Russian with a big chunk of his life ruined by the pygmies and philistines that Russian communism produced. There should have been recordings with Oistrakh, Ashkenazy and a dozen others, with them all at their peak, but they were never allowed to happen.

Anybody who thinks music is just a harmless pursuit should have tried living behind the Iron Curtain.

A great man leaves the stage.

As a Philistine, I find the above post offensive.

The world needs more great Cellists. It's sad to hear another has left.

Deliverance only has a total of three Es. Four Es make a gay disco.
