Brand new Ovation Legend 1717 (natural)! Can not wait until it arrives! Nothing like starting summer off with a brand new acoustic guitar!

Congratulations! Enjoy your new guitar! :)

Considering your username, you seem to be the type who likes making/listening to great music based on the elements of chance? Then again, I'm only guessing here ...

Nope its brand new with the OP40 pre-amp. I am really excited to get it. I have never actually played this Ovation model so I am stepping out on a limb. My first Ovation was a celebrity (shallow body) and its playability is awesome and actually sounds pretty damn good for the price but I am thinking this deep bowl legend is really going to be what I am looking for! :)

And yes ignimbyte I do like music with a lot of chance and improvisation granted it is done right. Electric miles stuff, mahavishnu, weather report, john mclaughlin etc. John Mclaughlin's "My Goals Beyond" is really what has inspired me to get this model Ovation. Not to copy his sound but to achieve a similar sort of sound and tone on an acoustic. I actually sold my Martin D-16GT to purchase this Ovation. Now I liked the Martin but I found it to be a very folk guitar, could not get the sound I am looking for with it, not to mention the lack of pickup (my apt is too noisy for mic's). Hopefully the guitar shows up next week. I will let you all know how I like it! :)

hah! I guessed it right! :D

I happen to have a fondness for the music of the late American composer John Cage, wherein most of his compositions contain aleatoric or chance elements. The beauty of chance is that whatever "magic" came out from the last performance, may or may not be replicated on its next performance, even if it's performed by the same musician(s) or ensemble. Thus it makes it difficult to capture on tape or disc, but a delight to experience in a live performance.

I happen to like both Ovation and Martin guitars, and I also like contemporary folk melodies, with the likes of Jim Croce, James Taylor and Neil Young. My first Ovation was also a shallow body balladeer [1861], and have since traded it in for an old stock, but brand new Custom Legend [1719], with the optima preamp. Besides the CL which I love, my other favorite is my HD-28. My current problem is that I have more Ms, and only one O. Hopefully, I could acquire more Os in the future to tip the balance ...
