Just found this a coupla days ago. Started reading it in bed last night and had to force myself to put it down because the sun was coming up.

It's called "I'll Sleep when I'm Dead" - The Dirty Life & Times Of Warren Zevon. Written by Warren's ex-wife Crystal, it's basically a collection of anecdotes, warts 'n' all from everyone involved in his life and career from the early '60s to the day he died. If you're a fan it's essential.

A story from his son Jordan.... Shortly before he passed Warren instructed Jordan that after he died he had to go to the house and clear out the porno collection. Jordan did so, expecting to find off-the-self hardcore from the adult stores on Melrose. Turned out they were all homemade, starring Warren and a cast of countless women.

There's a great quote from Zevon about his forthcoming demise..."Well, I got to be Jim Morrison a lot longer than he did"

saw WZ at rutgers in the early 80's he had just got sober and when some drunken frat boy offered him his bottle of Souther comfort he grabbed it from him cursed him out and smashed it against the base of the mic stand.
i was standing about 3 feet from all this. at the time I was kinda mad he wasted the whiskey but now I understand.

I read a review of her book in the NY Times. He was held in high regard by fellow artists and songwriters. Sounds like it would be a good read. Gotta get it.

Big Zevon fan here. He was a staple concert at Stockton in my college years. I'll pick up the bio.

He was kinda like the good Dr. Hunter S. of Rock n Roll... made the world a more interesting place...

Likewise... But I don't think they make the 100 Proof stuff anymore.

I just gotta keep all that stuff as fond anecdotes!

Serious note.

I would never never never ask a person to drink who has choosed /chosen (both are correct) to quit. No jokes. No questions.
..............................................
Warren Zevon, finally. Asleep.
Last album, the one we'd make if we knew...and we could.

I really like Zevon, and I'm also a big Dave Barry fan. When I saw the documentary about Warren putting his final album together and saw that Barry was one of his closest friends, it all made sense.

I'd love a link to that info. Makes a SMALL amount of sense to me....and I'd love to smear it in my longtime songwriting partners face!
(never saw/heard-of the docu.)
