Why is it that B and both E's more difficult to zero in on than the others? (A, D & G)
At least that is how it seems to me, and I got three external tuners...
Two internal...
Does this have something to do with half-steps in the scale, or what?

Location: Phoenix AZ | Are your EQ settings flat (bypassed)? not sure this would make a difference, but it's all I can think of. I use a korg rack tuner and have not noticed that problem, but nor have I looked for it. Dave |

Location: New South Wales, Australia | Arthur, I have the same problem but it's always with the A string and it doesn't matter which guitar I use it on.
I've got an old Seiko tuner and the needle just goes crazy at the A string. Sometimes I tune it using the piano...but that needs tuning as well.. :rolleyes:
My other tuner is a little Korg GA-30 (digital readout) and it also is a bit hesitant with the A string.
BTW Arthur.......I luuuurve dumb questions cos I've got a million of them :D |

Location: Scotland | Try using a 12th fret harmonic instead of the open strings. Most tuners will respond faster to a harmonic because it is a purer note with less overtones. |

Location: North Cal. mountains | Between my pitch pipe, the electronic tuners and the keybaord, I manage to find how the heck I feel like tuning 'em.
As long as I can get one good a, d or g, I'm good. I have good pitch, though. Once I get a reference point.
Then I have to tune the kiddies! This electric is tuned to G, and this acoustic is...huh? You can't even tune that sucker, but the kids insist.
They argue that the tuner says this thing...but logic and chords say whatever they want.
On most, I tune the darn thing for the chords/songs I'm playing! Time to take the guitar in?
Or time to throw the electronic tuner out? |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I was changing strings on the cc44 (first time, how sentimental) and went through this again.... Hence the thread.
Before I got internal tuned guitars, I started with a Free-with-guitar tuner. So I thought it was the tuner's fault. Now they all do the same thing.
I usually just tune string-to-string.
But since I was changing, I was trying for perfection.
Used to just pluck an E off of another guitar, and go for it!
That way, all my guitars could be outta tune, together! :p |

Location: Tampa, FL | I've found that when my tuner has difficulty picking up the fundemental of the string I'm trying to tune I get the best results by plucking the string at the 12th fret. This has the same effect as PT's harmonic comment. You get the pure fundamental with few overtones. |
