Will be receiving a Elite 1758 12-String tomorrow via UPS. Have had many conversations with the previous owner and I am sure it will be in great shape but it has basically stayed in the case for five years. I am sure it needs re-strung. What do you recommend?

I could best be described as a "campfire guitarist" and use both struming and finger picking style. (Finger tips, not nails)

btw Great to find this forum. Thank you bvince for pointing it out to me after monitoring my purchase on eBay!

Welcome.
Any question about strings is gonna bring many Opinions...
But we don't talk about strings for 12's much. I think that's cuz nobody changes them until it is REALLY necessary!
I've gotten Adamas 1212's of eBaaa for disgustingly cheap.
1212\'s Right here...
This seller ships in about 3-5 days.
Generally, I use D'Addario strings on all my other guitars. I believe that is what the factory uses.

But the general idea is use what you like.
Oh, and the 1758 is an awesome looking guitar!

I put a set of Elixir polywebs on my 12 and they lasted for 6-7 months. And sounded just fine.

I use them on all my 12's and I have 4 at the moment. Hard to beat the tone and longivity.
Blessings...
BTW: you'll love the 1758...great guitars!

I used the nanowebs, and loved them. They do last forever. And, Mike is right, you will love the 1758. As Will Rogers said, "I never met an Ovation I didn't like" (or something like that.)

I use Martin MSP4600 Extra Light Phosphor Bronze on my Alvarez. They are the best sounding strings ever on that guitar.

I too like the Elixir Polywebs on my 1758. Oh and the 1758... oh my gosh! Better tape up your windows to protect youself from the flying glass when you strum your first big E chord :D

I normally use Elixirs on my 12's (the sound is terrific and the like span is even better) but I was given a case of John Pearse strings and am currently using them. They sound wonderful on an Adamas I 12.

I would highly recommend Spectrum Bronze round wound. Not sure about the amplified sound (that depends on your equipment), but they are awesome. Best strings I ever had on my 1758. They are under SB 210 Round Wound.

Thanks MusicMike. Glad to be part of the club. Actually, I'm glad to be upright and taking nurishment, but that's another topic.
