Saw in the AG mag that Hohner have some new model called the Eclipse series :

From what I can see this is nothing but an Ovation clone with a different bowl material!?!

Where have I already seen this kind of body and soundhole design before? ;)

I always assumed the Chinese to be the copy kings.

IMHO it would look better without the center hole.

They do look interesting. Can't find them for sale anywhere when I google them.

Necks are either 2pc. Mahogany or 6pc. Mahog/Maple. Some with ebony f/b and Gotoh tuners. I'd like to check one out if anyone can find a source.

I remember trying these at NAMM. They look better than they sound.

"What make these different from other parabolic guitars..."

Just say Ovation!

Cross-weave Alder? Actually pre-formed plywood is an interesting concept. Unless it is just classy paper-mache?
Isn't there some kind of copyright infringement here?

It would be awefully hard to patent sound hole locations. The bowl may be a defendable patent, but since Ovation is moving to a new bowl shape, and since this made out of a cross weave, it would be different enough to survive a challenge. Unless ovation just wanted to become suit happy, and be a pain, but I don't see that in the company's character.

Besides, the more companies who make guitars like ovation, the better for ovation. The way wood is running out, the Adamas are actually a brilliant idea and more guitars should be made that way. It's a guitar ahead of its time.

Yeah center sound hole is usless and looks goofy. I have never like the newer Ovation styles anyway. I am stuck in the 70's with the original sound hole designs. In fact for my "single side" epuleted Adamas, I am considering sending it on to the factory for drilling and matching woodwork because I like both sides to match.
And correct me if I am wrong but I think the rules for legal action are centered on the headstock designs. You can copy the basic body styles all you want. But I would think Ovation may have a case because of the originality and uniqueness of their top designs.

Gibson won a lawsuit against PRS for copying the Les Paul body shape.

Don't like the center hole and the color on this one does nothing for me. The other holes aren't bad, but the headstock shape is very pretty. The other model pictured in the promo ad with the quilted top is much prettier.

No they didn't. When the case went to appeal ol' Hank got his ass kicked royally. And deservedly so. The PRS singlecut is so vastly different from a Les Paul that it wont even fit into a LP case. Gibson have been resting on their laurels for way too long and instead of trying to do the right thing and make a better product, they tried to shut down the competition with a paper-thin copyright infringement case. They were damn near laughed out of court.

Oops ... my bad. Must've been one of those front page / page 9 stories. I recall reading the front page story where Gibson won, but never saw the page 9 story that Hank got what he deserved. The nature of modern media I guess.

Yes, Gibson was smeared to the pavement with no further recourse. Serves the bloody berk right.
