Hey All,

Back a few months ago I posted on OFC about a second hand 6751 Balladeer 12er that I looked at here in Australia, with a nasty bridge bulge. I didn't buy that guitar, but the sound and feel of the thing haunted me.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I bought a new one in the USA and imported it a few weeks back. So, Muzza and the other Aussie owners have another local convert to the Ovation cause.

She sounds sweet. Just have to get my fingers around a 12er again.

I cut a Maton F10 (Aussie made 1970 laminate nylon string, in very good condition) from my list to accomodate the 6751. I bought this guitar as a classic local garage sale bargain and sold it on eBay 12 months later for a mere 15 times multiple of what I paid....yes, it does happen.....have I sinned? ;)

And now I've noticed a 1778T on the 'Bay....in my state, too....hmmmm

Forgot to mention - Australia's national newspaper (called The Australian - is this too obvious?) ran a feature article on Glen Campbell today....including a picture of him with Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens....and an O. Can't move without bumping into them.

Seeing the picture was a good excuse to pick up the 6751 and knock out my version of Galveston.

Welcome back Scorpex! Ovation 12's are great guitars. I bought a 1658 (1158 with factory electronis installed) a few months back and am starting to get my fingers wrapped around it a little. It sure is sweet.

I also have a 1778LX (not the T) but have played with a T a little and it really is an amazing guitar for the money. If you decide to get it you will not be disappointed.

Have fun with your new O and come back more often. We expect an indepth review after you've had more time with it.

Get the "T" and all will be forgiven. Plus you will be happy. They are a cool guitar for the money.

G'day Scorpex, and welcome. I haven't been around much lately so I missed your first post but it's good to have another Aussie here. Hope you're enjoying the guitar

"it's good to have another Aussie here."

This would be a matter of opinion. :p :D

Welcome Scorpex. Shouldn't you guys all change your name to Bruce? This is getting very confusing.

Hey Scorpex, welcome.

Good to get another US O in Oz. I hope you hang around.

Seems all the Australian members are at least 500 miles from each other, so not much chance of an OFC OZ gathering in the near future. (Could be a good thing? :p )

What are the odds on the next Aussie member coming from either Perth or Darwin?

Not in my book. I've only ever heard ONE Maton that I'd consider worthy of possessing. I think they're as over rated as Ovations are under rated.

Yeah, Muzza, you'd understand this - after playing the lumpy 6751 I went out and tried some Matons and Cole Clarks...go Aussie, I thought. They were clumsy (big necks, uncomfotable string spacing) and sounded dead (or was it just me?) Hence the mission to track down a good 6751 and bring it back home.

Initial reaction - I had a Fender F-55-12 for a long time and have also played my brother's Yammy 12 a bit, so those are the reference points. Action is a little high, so I'll be doing the shim thing, but it sounds so good and is O so comfortable.

Hell, it looks so good, too.

Looked in at a retailer in this city a few weeks back who had various Os hanging on the wall."How do they go", I asked...looking at the faded (exorbitant) price tags...."not so well, this is a very conservative city", he said. Tells a story.

Pricing is something I'd like to discuss....with the strength of the Aussie $ (or weakness of the greenback), it just doesn't add up to buy US gear in Aus....the 6751 was a grand under Aussie prices, even after freight.

I have not achieved redemption - the 1778T sold to someone else.....who has previously bought an Ovation on the 'Bay. Collectors, by the looks of it.

Hey Brad and Marie - do you read this forum?

They sell O's in the city?? Which shop did you go to? The 2 shops that I checked out didn't have any. (Fine, it's not that I'm gonna buy an Ovation in Aus since I just purchased an Ultra 1578 from Al and now just waiting for it to be delivered. :D )

This is why O's don't move too fast... Ozzie 1861
Compare to... Yankee 1861
Every time I see stuff like that I feel for everyone in Other Lands :(

[edit-- looking at the Yankee 1861, it does NOT have an OP30 in the picture, regardless of what the listing sez! But you get my point... Sorry!]

Thanks for feeling our pain Arthur. Ya don't see many Os in Oz...at least in my little part of it...but, by the looks of things, our army is growing so that's gotta be good :)

Hey Kougra - try the Ibanez centre on Brighton Road, but just look, don't buy! Derringers also have two or three hanging up in the acoustic room, second hand I think.

Once I worked out how to get a guitar moved to Aus out of the USA at a reasonable price (client's DHL account :) ) I couldn't do it fast enough.

OM Arthur is so right - seems like Aussie retailers still think the AUD is worth 0.49 USD, like it was a few years back.

Hey Muzza - O alert in your area...Surfers Paradise

GC opened his Denver concert with Galveston. He closed the concert with an encore of Amazing Grace on electric bagpipes.

I hear that GC can still play a bit...take 65 from 6751 to get his age. Marvellous.

Electric Bagpipes? That'll make the banjo players happy, finally knowing that there's a musical instrument even more obnoxious than theirs.
