I have been researching the value of my guitar and when I stumbled across this place I figured you guys could help.

No, I don't want to just use this place for info, but I'm also no longer playing so I doubt I will contribute much as a member. I'll gladly make a donation if I sell my guitar.

This thing is a beauty, yet I have no idea about a few things. The model number is 1537. There is no number following. I see numbers, a -4 for instance, after serial numbers on an ovation registration site. Not sure it that means anything. serial no 302105

I could swear I bought this before 1980, but it looks like 82 is the first year? Can't really remember.

Anyway it's in incredible condition and I am the original owner. I'm taking pics in the next day or two and I'll post them.

For me it's time to get a guitar I can leave out of the case, put light gauge strings on it, maybe paint it, and just thrash it.

I no longer need such a nice guitar and have kids starting to drive (:0. Time for another car and payments.

This baby sounds just like I have seen it described here and elsewhere. Unbelieveable. Plays so smooth my friends with Martins could only dream of such action. (medium gauge)

Anyway, just want to here some opinions on value and want. I know it's rare, and this one on;y has one little flaw from bumping into a mic stand.

All original components inside and out.

TIA for comments. Danny

These are special guitars. We'll look forward to the pictures.

Now is not the best time to be selling guitars. The market is weak and you probably won't get what the guitar is worth.

Where you located?

Welcome aboard...nice guitars: several of us have them here and we do love them...Moody is exactly correct that this is a difficult economy to sell guitars...but in any event, ya gotta do what ya gotta do...When you finally decide, you might want to use the For Sale section to post it...
Welcome again!

Looks to be nearly pristine. A couple-three years ago you could have gotten $1200 without blinking. Today? Who knows.

Decide on an absolute minimum price you'd take for it, then list it on eBay with an opening bid or reserve of that price and see where it goes.

Or, offer it on the For Sale section here at a higher price you'd like to get for it and see if it generates interest. But be prepared for lowball offers.

I wouldn't want to sell mine right now (or any of my guitars, for that matter). The market's just too depressed.

Best of luck with however you decide to proceed.

Wow that's a beauty. Love the burst! Pick a price and try listing it here and see what happens.

can i post on the for sale board? i thought as a newbie i could only post here in the welcome board.

I'd like to try here first instead of ebay. although i have sold on ebay for many years i have heard a few horror stories about selling high dollar guitars.

Every once in a while I play with the idea of selling my 1537 because it doesn't get played enough. Then I pick it up and play it and realize that it was my first really good guitar and if I had to sell guitars for cash, it would be the last out the door.....

That is a beauty burst in great shape, DD do you want to trade straight up for a natural 1537? I've always heard the 1537 bursts were the best sounding.

I've owned a -4 and now a -5...both killer guitars...

The -5 is not only great sounding; it is one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen...

-4, -5, -1...all 1537's are awesome
gits...

Your -1 is strikingly gorgeous...

Thanks guys. It has one small blemish from bumping into a mic. I tried to take pics of it but depending on the angle the shine from the varnish either makes it look worse than it is or it is barely noticeable. neither of which is an honest representation.

other than that, and the usual gold schaller pitting a little, which is normal i have heard, this thing is sweet. Everywhere I played it I always knew people would walk over to it the minute i opened the case! Loved it.

Thanks for the access. I'll try to post it on the for sale area. No trades, i need cash.

DD
