Hello!
I was wondering if anyone here could help me because I can't seem to find any information on my guitar.
From the serial number decoder, I found out that I have an American, 1974 Ovataion, but my model number doesn't show up on the retail value chart, past eBay sales, or just about anywhere on the Internet!
Am I reading this wrong? Is the model number wrong?
Inside, the model number is written as 1757.
The serial number is written above as 224348.
It's a deep bowl. Red. Carvings on the bridge and top t-rod cover.
Any information would be great, thanks all!

That sure looks like it!
A quick google search tells me that it's an old anniversary edition? Rare?
Do you think it was labeled incorrectly?

Yeah, could have been a mistake on the label. These are very nice guitars. Basically a custom legend without the abalone trim. No terribly rare (maybe a few thousand of them), but certainly a nice one to have.

Interesting. I found one of these guitars (1657) on eBay: here
but I notice a few differences.
-I do not have the "Anniversary" label that is found through the soundhole.
-My volume knob and output socket are in different places and the volume knob looks completely different.
Is this just a difference that has to do with when the guitars were made?

I've posted a bunch of pictures here
(sorry it's through a link)!
You can see my (incorrectly-labeled?) non-anniversary label, different volume knob, and different placement of the output jack. Also, just a better idea of what my guitar looks like.
Thanks for all your help!

That's a mid 80's label and preamp. Have you ownde the guitar since new? Was it returned to the factory at any point for some work?

I think Gallerinski nailed it. The hand-numbering on the label, plus the later model pre-amp, would point to the guitar having been sent back to the factory for a repair/retrofit. The 16XX model series (with either a single or stacked knob pre-amp located on the upper bass bout) became the 17XX model series with the introduction of the waist-mounted OP24-style pre-amp (along with some other changes in specs).

I was told at some point that if the 2nd digit was a 7, that meant that the guitar had an equalizer on the pre-amp, which would explain going from a 1657 to a 1757.

That's really interesting.
Would Ovation have records of any repairs that were done by them to my guitar?

If the presumed repairs/refurbishment were done before the computer age, it might be difficult to locate paper records.

But, what the heck, it can't hurt to ask. Email Customer Service , with your question and the serial number of the guitar, and maybe include a link to this thread. The worst that can happen is that they won't be able to help.
