This is amazing and brings up so many questions. I was wondering how much of this was tried, or in fact is used on the Adamas or the Q. I notice this instrument is essentially 100% Carbon fiber. Although the top is laminated, it's all CF, no wood.
Pretty interesting all in all. |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Spendy little critters, too! $6500.00 for a cello? I suppose if that's what you use to make the rent each month, it's cool. |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | When my wife and I first started dating, she showed an interest in learning cello, but was afraid to spend a grand on something she'd never tried. So, I got her a used Kay cello off eBay that Christmas. I put some money into it to get it set up, but all told, I probably put less than $400 into it thinking if she didn't like it, I could sell it and get the money back.
The luthier I took it to (Randy Woods near Savannah, GA. He's fantastic and is something of an expert on Kay string instruments among other things.) took a long look and suggested I track down its history if I could.
It turns out that this cello is Kay instrument #98 made in Kay's first year of production. Randy got it set up and even had a cellist from the now-defunct Savannah Symphony come to his shop so they could listen to it. The sound was...Awesome! :D
Suffice it to say, my wife is NOT selling it! ;) |
