While watching them explain the pick-ups I hasve to admit these guitars crank on the electric side with the 59 Duncans. Its also seemed to me that having 2 single coil tele style, would a good option. It would then be a attractive to people playing for the Nashville or Bakersfield sound.
It also seemed to me only a 2nd top templates would be easy to do. I can't think of any reason it would not wire in the same.

That's a good point, but from the little bit of time I demo'd one and listening to some other rather accomplished players on it, you can actually out tele the tele sound by blending the bridge pickup with the humbuckers.

Yep I know, doesn't make sence, unless you look at Ovation's history in electrics. Those who have Vipers and Early Breadwinners know of what I speak.

The folks at Ovation have always had a knack for making the Volume control and Tone control on the electrics actually usable in positions OTHER than 1 and 10.

I found the least interesting sounds were either full humbucker or full bridge pickup. Don't get me wrong, they sounded fine, but the guitar really seemed to come alive when I (or anyone else) started messing with all the tones using the partial blends, and different vol and tone settings. I think some of that would be lost with single coils.

It would be a different sound.
Single coils are crisper cleaner sound.
Humbuckers are fuller warmer sounding.
My thoughs were niche market.
Those playing country.
That country sound is mostly tele in to fender twin on the clean channel.

I have an ES-335 with a coil tap switch. Single coils one way, humbuckers the other. Flipping back and forth on the same licks/notes/chords provides a good demonstration of the tone difference.
