I have a vague memory (a more common experience at my age, I might add) of discussions of coated strings a few years ago when the concept was new. If I remember right (note the caveat), it was observed that the coated strings lose their brightness faster than noncoated, but then last a lot longer.

Maybe that's either in a parallel universe or the experience of my doppelganger....

Paul, it's not that coated strings lose their brightness faster, it's that except for the phos/bronze Elixirs, they don't have the brightness to begin with. They sound like regular strings which have been played for a day or two (or for 30 seconds by Temp). But they keep that tone forever.

Every set of EXPs I've ever tried has sounded dull within days. Elixers, on the other hand, sound great for months. Right now, I have Elixer P/B nano lights on all three of my all-wood guitars, and Elixer 80/20s on my GC Artist. As I've gotten older, I find my hands don't sweat as much, and I can squeeze four to six months of life out of a set of Elixers, as long as I change the plain strings every so often, since they're not coated.

BTW, I picked up my HD-28 today, and was reminded of what a great guitar it is. If it were the only steel string I had, I would.... oh wait, wrong forum! ;)

I've been happy with Elixer nanowebs light or custom light for quite a while, so I keep using them. The last ones I bought were "New" and had B and High E strings that were plated with some nickel alloy of some kind or other. I really like these and think they are a great improvement. Now I suspect I'll be changing strings when the G string wears out instead of the high E.

Anyone else try these yet?

Wear out a G string? Not likely here, but I can dream.

I think he meant moody. But for real I played my Adamas today and I cant help but say what an awesome guitar. Three years ago I asked about Ovation guitars as I was thinking about buying one and I was told about this board. Well not only did I get a great guitar I have met some incredible people. I have been encouraged to do things I never would have done otherwise like the CD, open mic at the tour, robbing that gas station. So to sum it all up Thank You for being You.

It's always that way, you fall back in love with the guitar you haven't played in a while. And then change strings and you really love it! Then move on to the next guitar.....

Jeez, Paul. I come over to your place not 24 hours later, and the 1537 is nowhere to be seen. There was a Glen Campbell reissue, and old Legend, an FD14, and probably a couple of others out and about. But no 1537? Mr. Fickle.

The JL3 was definitely the best sounding guitar of the bunch. :D

Yes, I meant Moody...but I echo my fellow minister's sentiments about this forum/club/mental institution/(you fill in the blank)...I spend way too much time here but its always good for a laugh, learning something you didn't know, and the opportunity to get together from time to time and jam (Tour 07; Southern Jam 07; upcoming Amelia Island Clinic; etc.)...Lots of good memories: one of my favorite was Temp's mistaking his open ended glass slide for a shot glass at around 2am...great stuff! I have played Ovation products longer and more consistantly than any other brand and finding this forum and all of you has only added to the delight!

Bobbo, my primary reason for not having the 1537 out was that I wanted to a/b your Lennon with the GC RI. The secondary reason was that I didn't want you to have buyer's remorse comparing the Lennon to the 1537.

In essence, I was being nice to a guest......

It's good thing I have Hi-Tops. Paul you got me thinking as to how long ago did I change the strings on my Adamas, well its been awhile so I just put on some John Pearse Lts. And does she ever sound sound so beautiful.
Thanks Pauly

Uh, Paul ... I already did that in the comfort of my own shack. No buyer's remorse at all. ;) I will say that all the guitars we had out all had their own sound. And the JL3 was the best. LOL.

And thank you, you indeed were a gracious host.

Pauly ... with moody it's hipwaders, not hightops.
