Hi
I am looking on a OVATION 1719 CUSTOM LEGEND

https://www.dba.dk/guitar-ovation-1719-ovat/id-1109782616/

but have no idea if it is better than ex. Ovation custom balladeer?
I am also looking on a Ovation 1111, which is quite cheaper, but dont know much about the model.

Best regards
Ole

Hi Ole, Welcome. I have no experience with either. Observations:

1111: Pickup is aftermarket it was born without pickup, has one changed b-string tuner, has conventional trussrod (pre-kaman bar) neck, looks in good condition except for a small mark on the back of the neck

1719: More "flashy" with engraved bridge and more inlays, has a crack in the top (not unseen on older O's), newer model than the 1111, has an old FET3 preamp (not the most fancy) missing the volume knob

It is difficult to judge the condition and string heigth. If the string heights are OK on both then I would visit the 1111 for a closer look. Mainly due to the neck design and a nice brown case.

Take a look at era correct catalogs, early 70's for the Balladeer (1111) and mid to late 80's for the Custom Legend (due to the OP 24 preamp which dates it to 1985 or later.

Yes, probably OP24 preamp. They look the same - except for the volume knob.

Many thanks for the help.
Fun to flip through the old catalogs.
I think I'll go ahead with 1111
Thank you
Ole

I have never owned a 1111 Balladeer, though I do have a 1981 1112 Custom Balladeer that is the best sounding and best playing Ovation I have ever owned in that class. I haven't owned a Custom Legend since the 90's, but between the two I played and enjoyed the 1112 over the unplugged CL. Just my own preference.

It's interesting. Every Ovation has an "Ovation vibe" and yet every one has a different sound. I had a 30th anniversary 2004 Custom Legend. Really nice guitar. Never spoke to me and it's gone. i've got 4 USA built (high end - all of them) Ovations. 3 deep bowls and one mid depth. Each one sounds different. Put the same strings on all of them and they all sound different. I'm enough of a snob to only play USA built wood top Ovations (no Asian built guitars). But you've got to buy what YOUR ear tells you is the "sound" for you. Regardless of anything else......

This is where I'm at also.

@Moody & dba - >>>I'm enough of a snob to only play USA built wood top Ovations (no Asian built guitars)<<<

Me, too, as I've owned maybe 20 USA's over the years and have never purchased an Asian-built Ovation for myself. However.. I did receive a Korean-built Celebrity CC-13 as a gift (a 1992 model, I believe) and it has been equally as structure-stable and soundworthy as my American counterparts from that era... though again.. I'm not so sure if latter generations of Pacific rim Celebrities have been built as well as this one was.
