| Hi,
The shop I bought my Thunderhead from lost the serial number sticker so I don't know which year it was made. How can I tell its production year?
Thanks,
Kev

| Thanks alpep. That's cool. I did read somewhere, though, and can't find it now, that the neck/neck pickup distance was changed at one point, and wondered it that might give a ballpark clue ... or is there some other tell?

| Well, I've done a little more research and found this 72 model, which has the same long neck style, but with the '2nd generation' pickups:

... and this 71 model (which looks just like mine - same long neck and same '1st generation' pickups):

So, fwiw, I'm just gonna put mine down as a 71 model ...

Therefore, I would recommend posting in "general posting" or "about my guitar".
Good Luck in your Search.

from Standing Ovation:
I can't post in the welcome center, so can you please tell the dude that was looking for the serial number of his Thunderhead to remove the neck plate (cover) and usually the serial is scratched in the finish under that cover. If not then go ahead and remove the 4 neck screws/bolts (loosen strings first) and the serial number should be written on the body bock where the neck attaches. Three might also be a number written in the underside of the neck itself but that is usually the neck number or a QC stamp. Thanks

| Thanks everyone, and I’ll definitely post in the correct forum next time. I had a look under the neck plate, and sure enough the serial number is underneath. H705. Doesn’t narrow down the production date much, form what I’ve seen it’s between 1970-72, which is what I thought.
Thanks again.
