Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Does anyone know the logic, if any, of the odd configurations on Ovations, especially some of the early electrics?
Breadwinner = bridge-neck- both instead of bridge-both-neck Thunderhead = out of phase-in phase-mute instead of bridge-both-neck Adamas = need a dummy plug for optima preamp

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Even the VXT has a bit of drama because of the switch stereo/mono switch in back and the blend control. Lots of folks did "non standard" but it LOOKED non-standard. B.C. Rich Supreme models, you know just looking "hey, I'm gonna need the manual for this." Even the Varitone rotary on guitars looks like something different. Just seemed like an odd thing to do. |

Location: When?? | Not sure if this qualifies for what you are referring to with this thread, but the stack-knob system on the New Hartford final-run 1627 Campbell is located in what couldn't be a worse position. Difficult to play for more than a few minutes without the right arm contacting and rotating it, especially if you want to pick anywhere north of the sound hole, and especially again if wearing long sleeves that have been rolled up with the roll flaring at or below the elbow. It should have been placed toward the upper end of the bass bout like the old ones were and completely out of the way of arm movement. Not sure if any other stack-knob models were ever located like this one.

The early cutaways have the stacked knob located at the waist so think 1661,1667,1669 they did it because they moved the strap button onto the bass side and had to relocate the electronics |

That makes sense for clearance sake on those. The beef here is that this one is not a cutaway and the strap button is way down yonder on the treble side. I've reached inside and there is lots of space available for it on the upper end of the bass bout. No, they did it simply to erk me. No other reason. Them and General Motors. Out to get me. I just know they are. And today a cop drove slow past my house. I'm so screwed. |
