1687-8 I think that is blue not beige. If it is beige it is 1687-7

He had one of the original slotheads, which that may be. Someone here will know a lot more about that.

There was a list somewhere.... That said who got which Slothead.

Found it!

Plus you can look around Here (OvationTribute) and see if you can match it up.

Ah, thanks OMA! That list says model 1689, which if I understand correctly makes it a wide neck, vs the 1687 which is the standard width nut.

I believe that is Origibal Slot Head number 56 a 1689 brown(color code 9 in future models) yes it should be a wideneck and if you look at the list Cat Stevens received 2 different slotheads the 1689-8 later on anf the brown one first

"but the Ovation was just a necessity because it really wasn’t a guitar that you wanted to play.”

The colour is hard to tell from faded picture. I think I see a hue of blue in there, but I don't know if the brown ones were slightly blueish.

I forget the details but I think somewhere in the archives is mentioned that his first one was destroyed or stolen and that's why he ended up with a second one.

I know this isn't what an Ovation player wants to hear (and I have an A-braced Ovation Legend myself), but...

Yes Brown ,at first look I could see it was the Adamas I brown burst(Adamas II brown is darker)
If you look at the list of who got the OSH Adamas it shows Cat Stevens got a 1689 brown
Do you know what year your picture is from?
Here is a link to catalog with the different colors and codes
I'm under the weather right now but I'll get you a pic of a blue and brown side by side

All I know is that the photo is from an AM photo session in LA. As to what year, I don't know. I can only guess it was late in his second career in the music business. As to the color, I think you are right. This is very likely brown.

Here is reference shot of another (brown) Adamas (non-slothead, though), which matches up quite nicely:
