Seriously. I've got too many. And I hate that they don't get played. And I think of folks out there who would love to have just ONE nice guitar. Need to make some hard decisions.

It's not that I want to generate some cash. It's just that, guitars should be played and I'm feeling guilty.
It's not like a coin collection.

Quite a few are sentimental attachments. Two were left to me by deceased friends. But they are languishing.

Any others here feel a similar dilemma?

I have too many guitars also,I've tried thinning them down over the years but they always seem to multiply over time,30 guitars is more than any non professional needs,i have some i'll never sell, others that I think would be to hard to replace and some I'd send to a new home just to see somebody get enjoyment out of them.
Anybody want a Celebrity nylon string or an old 1127 with a missing ear but a nice top.

I used to suffer from FONO (Fear Of Not Owning). Folks would be talking blah blah blah about this model or that and automatically I wanted to own one of those as well. It was pointless and most of them have since found new homes where they will be played and appreciated much more. I've thinned my collection to those guitars that make me happiest to play.

Yeah. I thought I'd play a lot more when I retired, but I've actually played less. Even so, at least 4 of them need new strings and I've been too lazy to do that. When 2WD gets down to 20, I'll start selling.

I am thinking about how many times I cleaned-up and restrung a guitar, the said to myself:
"This is a NICE GUITAR. I ain't selling this."

I've gotten rid of about 10 guitars and am down to the 7 that have the best stories attached to them. Think I'm done thinning.......

Well, one thing is like OMA said: When I want to sell one, I cleaned it and strung it new and then played it..... What a great guitar, don't sell it!!!
The other side is like Dave told us: Seeing something new and I want to test it out...... .....and keep it!!!! (almost)

First.. Arthur.. that cartoon has me in stitches!!
Second.. 2WD.. heck yes, feel free to send something my way (and you know which one).
Third.. just last Saturday an old friend was in town and saw a lot of guitars around the house, then we took a drive down to the studio where he saw even more and said, "What's with you? Every time I step around a corner there's another guitar.!".. then went on further to say.. "But I'm sorry to report that the one you sent me for Christmas years ago has hardly ever been played. I just can't get into it." To which I replied, "Okay, then give it back."
So contrary to the title of this thread.. is there something wrong with being a hoarder?? And be sure to tune in next week when we discuss liquor cabinets.

Here is a thought....
I don't want to Die with a bunch of Money in the Bank.
Money in the Bank is meaningless. Yeah, security and all that crap.
But a room full of Guitars.... That is FUN!

LOF if you read my post I said some were never going anywhere and others would be to hard to replace, the green 1769 custom legend fits in both catagories so not gonna be that one
Now if you'd like a 1982 sunburst Legend 1667 that needs restored PM me I never got around to getting it fixed up

Do you have guitar cases stacked to the ceiling so you can only walk down a tiny path from guitar to guitar cause if your truly a hoarder you fit in here perfectly as were all fanatics

Worse than that. I don't have a basement in this house. The last one had a basement with room for the guitars and a storeroom for the cases. This one has a bigger room for the guitars, but the cases wouldn't all fit in the two closets on this floor, so...I found some rather inaccessible attic space above the garage, built a pull down stairs and added plywood flooring. The cases fill most of the room in that part of the attic, but I have a plan to build shelves if I need to. Despite the extreme temperatures in the attic, the cases have been fine for 7 years. I don't think my sickness is curable.

I used to live alone with plenty of room to grow the collection. Then I got married and moved into a fantastic home but with limited space for guitars. I'm now limited to a large climate controlled cabinet for the good guitars, plus under the grandkids' bunk beds for a couple of non-O beaters. Cases fit in The Bunker with shtf supplies. In case of zombie apocalypse the cases get ejected to fend for themselves.

Each guitar in my small collection has a unique story and is different from the others. Different personalities for each.

Retirement looms near, and I intend to play a lot more.

After posting to this thread, I promptly went over to eBay and bought another guitar. (non-O)

2WD... dang it. Oh well, once again I tried. And thanks on the other, but probably best to just keep the 1667 in your gimp heap as well as mine.
As for the maze of cases.. a guy only has two hands, so should only need two cases, right? Somehow I have failed at that, but my studio comes with storage space down the hall so I hog that up. Come the day I move out of there I will likely be stuck where Mark is... plywood attic with pull-down stairs.

In case of Zombie Apocalypse rig the case with pigs brains and claymores to use them for your defense perimeter so they don't go to total waste

Each guitar has a unique story the best justification(as if we need one) for having as many guitars that speak to you as you can possibly accumulate,I'm with OMA I'm guitar poor no huge nest egg but lot's of unique Ovation Guitars!!

LOF I figure you'll never stop trying for the caddie 1769,Do you have a Custom Legend?
As far as the two hands limits you to two cases careful somebody will decide you can only have what you can pick up with two hands on any item, imagine if you could only have 2 beers or 2 peices of pizza or even worse Only Two Guitars...God Forbid It

Forget the attic storage dig a sub-basement to store your most precious O's against the Zombie Apocalypse!!!

Nope. Not no mo. I had one back in the day, but traded it to drop a big block into a race Camaro, which I promptly turned into a grenade, and then quickly wanted the CL back. Been downgraded to Custom Balladeers ever since-- and now too poor, talentless and bull-headed to warrant rising above.

I'm sure more than one person here let a guitar go they wanted back,I've sold a couple CL's to fund Adamas purchases and let a friend talk me out of one, wish I still had the 1982 CL 12 string.

Bull-headed I get ,talent is irrelevant when your a hoarder
Sell a few of the balladeers and get a Custom Legend 1769,DiMeola model if possible its the best you can get without splurging for an Adamas and the tone is to die for IMHO

How many guitars do we need ..just one more

I have 12 guitars, of which, 3 are Ovations, and as a “hole in the head” I have 3 banjos. I couldn’t part with them, because I enjoyed the hunt for them, and I know I’d regret selling them. I make a point of taking one out a week to play and tweak. Keep them…..that’s my 2 cents.
