FREE - Ovation Balladeer, needs work, you pay the shipping

OK, this isn't the prettiest Ovation in its current state but would be a great fixer-upper project and you certainly can't beat the price. You pay the shipping or pick it up yourself in Brookfield Wisc. No case but I will bubble pack it very well.

This is a Balladeer model 1111-6 (white) serial number 023542 model year 1974. Deep bowl, non cutaway, acoustic only although an under-saddle pickup and onboard volume control were added later. As you might expect for this price there is some Good, some Bad and some Ugly.

The GOOD:

o neck is sound, straight, nice action, no hump, no heel gap
o fretboard is in good shape with minimal fret wear
o All bracing is solid and intact
o All binding is intact
o Chrome tuners are a bit tarnished but work fine
o Truss rod works fine but there is no truss rod cover
o Top is flat, no belly or dip

The BAD:

o Undersaddle pickup was added but no ida if it works
o Volume control was added to upper bout and a 9V batter holder internally
o An additional hole is next to the Volume but it has been professionally plugged
o Logo has worn off the headstock and a paint chip on one of the wings
o Bowl is in good shape but the is a glue "blob" that I could not remove
o Bridge seems fine but the finish is wearing off part of it
o Rosette is missing

The UGLY:

o Nut looks very suspect but it actually played OK before I unstrung it
o Saddle (acoustic) is missing, you can see the pickup under it
o The top "needs work" ... basically there is one major thru-the-wood crack which should probably be cleated and sealed, plus a significant number of cosmetic cracks and finish issues. It would take a significant amount of work to make this into a pristine guitar, but actually not all that much work to make it playable.

PM me if you want this for free and you are willing to pay the shipping or pick it up yourself. USA only.

I don't know the history of this guitar. I bought it recently for $100 because I needed the rosette. I popped off the rosette and now just giving the rest away.

What did you use the rosette on?

Well so much for that, then…the forum shows your location as Phoenix for some reason.

My official residence is indeed Phoenix but I also have a summer place in Wisconsin which is where this 1111-6 guitar is with me.

Is it my imagination, or does that guitar look like it may have been underwater at some point?

(Not that it matters, it should be restorable, and it would still be a great project for someone.)

There’s a local band around here with a guy who occasionally plays an old Ovation 12 string. He claims that it floated into his grandmother’s yard during a flood and she gave it to him, so he cleaned it up and plays it all the time now.

I cannot believe that nobody has claimed this.
Just stick a saddle in it, and some strings, and you have a Balladeer.
I have Paid for guitars that look worse than that.
Wisconsin is in the middle of the country, so it should be about $100 or less to anywhere in the US.
($93 UPS to PDX)
Someone really should have already claimed this.
It the bad old daze, that would be gone and I would be crying cuz I missed it.
Somebody grab this.

It appears from the photo of the back of the headstock... underneath all that paint is a skunkstripe. This could be a cool project for a Bottom Feeder.

Well, I'll be darned. My 1st attempt at volunteering for the mission, apparently failed. So, I will run it up the flagpole again.
Okay, lemme see what I can accomplish here.
Dave, PM me the shipping details, & I will endeavor to refurbish this critter. For reference & calculation, my zip is 98908.
Cheers,
Chris

As they say in Oz Downunder, "done & dusted". Standingovation has graciously allowed me to adopt & rehab this old warrior. I will start a thread in the BFLG, when I get my mitts on the critter!

Wisconsin has approx 84,000 lakes, so it's hard to NOT be near one.

Wow! And I am glad.
I was tempted to grab it and play it "as is".
That should have been gone in minutes.

I look forward to seeing the rebuild.

Yeah. Me, too!
I have a good "rehab climate", with 45% humidity & temps between 40-80 degrees. Now then, the clutter.......

10K or 84K is probably not the issue. Relative mosquito nuisance index would be my concern.

That clutter pile looks to be about yard sale value for the shipping cost and rebuild materials. Not a bad trade.
