I have been an Ovation player since my wife (future wife at the time) purchased me my first Ovation - a 1112 Custom Balladeer in 1974. That’s all it took we were married in Jan 1975 and have been since. I also have a collector’s 1994 and a celebrity cc257. Which brings me to the next point, I’m looking at getting my first Adamas but there are so many choices..... I use the others guitars on a weekly basis at church and they look as good as the day I got them. Not looking at the Adamas for regular traveling or playing on the road but more to play at home and as a collector type guitar. I saw a 1681-7 Adamas II for a decent price but was wondering what everyone thought about this as a keepsake to pass down to a grandchild some day?

If this line of thinking works out with my wife I could be in luck! I have 14 Grandkids. That would really help the current Ovation collection to pass on...

Thoughts on the 1681-7. It’s a 1981 Blue Burst?

Thanks in advance. Butch

The Adamas 1681 is a great guitar,IMHO the best Adamas use the textured top with the suspension ring like this one has,the 1681 is a little plainer than the 1687 which has the carved bridge and headstock but they sound equally great,if the price is good go for it you won't be disappointed.
FYI the color code 7 is beige burst,blue/grey in the middle to white/beige on the outside, color code 8 is the blue burst, also they no longer make the Adamas II so as a collector it has that distinction.

Thanks very much for the info. I’ll have to show my wife your signature collection of guitars!! Me getting a couple more will seem like nothing. The 1681 is around $2000 which in looking at prices doesn’t seem too bad but most of the listing are for the Adamas 1 so makes it a little hard to tell. Thanks again

Go to reverb.com,search for adamas then click on sold listings that will give you a general idea, right now prices seem up on guitars.
$2000 doesn't seem bad just make sure it has good action and no neck problems

I, too, am forever in envy of 2WD's collection! However...

Hmmmm... where have I heard THAT before?? Famous last words uttered by many.
Welcome to the OFC, good luck, and let us know how you progress. We're on your side!!

I do believe that price sounds cheap when compared with the recent Adamas prices which I have seen! But I am certainly no expert. Just a humble living room plinker of the old songs!

I am envious of your grandkids. I don't suppose we could work out a trade. I agree with the recommendation of a textured top with the suspension ring. If you really want to go classic, look for an 1187-247. There might be a few of those reissues out there. I'd also recommend the "Ute". Actually the U681T. It is a bit unusual for an Adamas in that it was a 12 fret to the body with a little wider neck for a good fingerstyle guitar. I think it has the best sound of anything out there. It definitely is loud with a full bass.

Do you know of any Ute's for sale that has been on my wish list for awhile!!!

1187-247 or one of the OFC re-issues would be a splendid choice if you can find one

I haven't seen a Ute for sale in years. That might be an indication of how good they are.

I definitely wouldn't sell mine.

I have an Adamas 2081 and Adamas W681TA as well, but my Ute is always my 'goto' guitar.
