| I'm hoping you kind people can help with dating my Breadwinner (and answering a pre-amp question, and also I don't mean going out with it, much as I love it). I've checked the serial number dating guide but doesn't seem to apply to my guitar. My breadwinner is white with single-coils. The backplate and battery plate are smooth, not embossed, and the serial number is 1032. There's no letter. I have not taken the neck off to look under it for any more data. Someone online suggested the smooth plates may mean it's from very early in the run (or, I've wondered, if they are replacements from later, yet that seems unlikely). I've attached photos.
Also, I believe someone, at some point, stripped out the preamp. I'm close to the Ovation factory in CT but they tell me they cannot help with replacements. They did send me NOS knobs about 15 years ago. Have to put them back on one day. |

- The jack in the body instead of the pickguard
- The toroidal pickups
- And of course, the plain non-embossed plates on the back.
I can't tell, but the bridge saddles "should" be nylon from this era, but could have easily been changed. Hard to tell from the picture. The only way to know about the preamp is to show the backside of the pickguard.
The guitar is from '72-'73 period. The input jack in the body as well as the smooth plates was very short-lived. Essentially first run. |

|  " border="0" /> " border="0" /> " border="0" />Ah, thank you, Mr. Ovation. I suspected as much but nice to hear. Perhaps it was Keith Partridge's guitar? ha, ha. I forgot to mention the jack was on the side (essentially between the knobs but on the side). I will take a look under the pickguard. I always thought the preamp was gone, as I don't see the two 9-volt battery hookups, but maybe I'm not seeing it. Everything else is stock including the bridge (photos below). I've had it for about 20 years. Came with the original hardshell case. Neck plays well.

| Also, I'm getting ready to sell a black Breadwinner body (and neck and blue pickguard) on ebay, but if curious the body has the side routing for the jack, so also likely an early bit of gear. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Yep that's the early bridge, and the black body is from the same era as well.. By the way,if you want the black on the bridge to pop back and not be faded... spray a little "Pam" cooking spray on a towel and wipe it. It will look new again. |

Help Dating My Breadwinner
