Need your expert eyes, can you confirm this is the "humble" Mexican 1773ax?

Thanks!

I have a 'satin finish' S778AX.
I contacted Ovation UK and the mothership about the AX and both confirmed it was made in America

Thank you sir.

Interesting, I have always thought that LX was American and AX was Mexican. So maybe the guy in my link is playing an American guitar.

Nowadays most guitars with an AX suffix are made in Asia which is why I contacted Ovation prior to purchasing mine.

Just to add to the confusion... the 1773AX-4 listing on the Ovation website has the "Crafted in Korea" sticker on the back of the headstock.

As mentioned above AX models are generally made in Asia and I have not heard of Mexican production, that's for Martin, Fender, and Taylor guitars. There were a few Balladeer and Elite AX models with a "Special" designation in 2005 only that were made in New Hartford which are the exception and may have been the designs that the later mass produced AX series was based on.

All that matters is the feel of the guitar in your hands and whether or not it takes you to another place!!

I totally agree: no snobbery from my side, I was just asking for your expert eye in order to identify the Ovation in the link I provided. A good guitar is a good guitar, regardless from its country of origin.
Thanks.

I once posed this question and never saw a definitive answer.. so again... what, exactly, do the letters "LX" and "AX" actually stand for??

And I'm with NerdyDave... if it plays well, sounds well, feels well and makes you happy, then it really doesn't matter if you paid top price for a brand new guitar from a dealer, or found it laying on the ground after washing out of a sewer pipe.

"LX" commonly denotes "Luxury"
(y'know? Like a Corolla LX, much more luxurious)

I think "AX" was started during the Fender flu...
And they were really hoping that people would call it an "Axe".
