So I had to buy new strings today (one broke yesterday, they were only about 12 or 13 years old, LOL)

I took my guitar with me & asked them to check the action, saddle, nut height, etc. They did, free of charge.

They said the neck is REALLY jacked up, badly warped, & beyond repair.

My brother was just over to my house on Sunday last weekend & he was playing my guitar & mentioned that he always felt my guitar had an odd slope to the neck. The guy at the store when explaining to me how it was he said it was also sloped, just as my brother had said.

So is it true that there is nothing that can be done to fix it?

I guess I gotta start working overtime to buy a new one. I'm just so sad, I love this guitar so much. And I love the color of it & ovation doesn't seem to make this color anymore.

And I definitely don't want to buy a used guitar again, I got this one used & couldn't even tell that it wasn't in good condition.

Also, how does a neck get warped in the first place???

If you like the guitar and like how it plays and sounds, it doesn't matter if the neck is warped, IMHO. It *might* be affecting your playing, like being able to get an F chord to play easily.

Personally, I'd keep playing it (if you like it) while saving up for a replacement that you'll like better.

Try lots of different guitars that you have opportunity to experiment with (a Guitar Center or other friendly store is good for this) and see if any of the necks feel better or worse to you...an F chord is a pretty fundamental first experiment. ;)

13 years with one string set is enough.

You have to change strings!
1) no way one string set could be really playable (good intonation, good sound) for more than month (or 20h of playing), except maybe D'Add EXP or Elixir's
2) constant string tension wore materials on Your guitar. Every string puts slightly different tension on neck, so you have to adjust the neck, and you protect your guitar from warping etc. by changing position of truss rod (which is could warp for ever)

Just have someone adjust the tension rod.

The man said " beyond repair " , that sounds as if the neck has "twisted"...

Vic

..could be costly..

yes, "twisted" is exactly what he said

the guitar has been sitting for the past 10 years or so, but I am certain the neck was already warped, twisted, what have you, prior to that time, my brother (who has also played it alot & always complained about the neck on it since I got it) also agrees.

so I guess it's probably true, it's beyond repair, not what I wanted to hear........

yes, I'm struggling horribly with the F chord.

I wish I could get my hands on another guitar right now for comparison.

I will definitely start working some overtime & save up for a new guitar.

I'm eyeballing the 6778 LX standard elite.........a little expensive for me, but I might be able to pull it off.

When comparing guitars, why not try a Left-hand model..it might suit you better.. :)

I think it would be really hard to try to switch to a left handed guitar at this point........

I've spoken to a couple luthiers infinitely more talented than me, and neither had any good fixes for twisted necks. Some out there claim they can heat the neck and twist it back into place but I haven't heard of anyone actually having it done and working. If we were talking about an 1892 New York Martin I'd say "try it!" but aren't all Ovations bolt on necks?

I know there is a NOS Ovation acoustic neck on ebay right now for $150, don't know if it would fit. At any given time there are basket case Ovations on ebay that go under $100 and most of them have imploded tops but seemingly good necks. Might be worth buying one just for the neck....

Where's seesquare? I think he has a jig to untwist a neck. Pretty sure he did it with one of his resonators...

That's great that it worked for you, all I'm saying is that it's not a repair with more predictable results like a neck reset, replacement of a truss rod, etc. I've corrected twists in necks by replacing the fingerboard altogether but that's major surgery.
