Location: Indiana | I have/had been looking for a used O bass for a while
(being as I am mainly a bass player) to play on camping trips, etc. Didn't want to spend a lot on it just in case something bad would happen to it. I have a Martin B1, but just don't feel good about taking it outdoors. Kinda left the USA O's out of the picture, also. I had been looking at the CC074, 174 and 274. Even concidered an Applause. After looking at several on evilbay, I came to the conclusion that the CC274 was what I wanted. I missed out on a few on the bay and one at GC in Indy. Bout a week ago I saw one at a GC in Missouri (I live in Indiana). It's condition was rated as 5 star. I called about it on Wednesday, it was shipped Thursday and I recieved it Monday. It had the original (1995) bill of sale with it. If the original owner had bought this bass and slid it under his/her bed for 12 years without ever opening it, it would be in the same shape as when I recieved it. Just simply perfect in every way. I was not expecting very much soundwise, but was I ever amazed. This thing just sounds great (unplugged). Got it for $399 + tx & shipping. How did I do? I know I am very pleased with it.

So that's what it means to be patient? Bright shiny, with a case and what you needed - priceless!
Although I'm not a bass player I had to pick up one of the Applause units on ebay. Upon putting on new strings I found that I had a stripped tuner so I upgraded to some gold plated overseas open gear units. Upon removing the strings the piezo disintegrated so I had it on the workbench awaiting parts. We were in Summer mode so one or more sliding doors got left open for the cats to move freely about...
Next day my Wife called and said that someone had come in the house and that while nothing was missing I had a broken guitar and a couple more on the floor. Drawers had been gone through and couch pillows were tossed but nothing was missing. This was the first week of school and it was also the first "Late Start Wednesday" in the District.
The only victim was the Bass which suffered a headstock snap at the nut. Well, almost the only victim... Doors are shut and a new cat door adorns our garage, much to the annoyance of our cats.
They are tough but a good slap in the peghead seems to be the weak spot.
I thought about moving the tuners to the bottom and running with a "headless" unit but we'll see what goes. |

Location: Indiana | Interesting idea if you can do it. When playing out, I play Steinbergers. Really like the double ball system. They almost never go outa tune. The headless thing was weird at first but I got used to it pretty fast.
