Boy Howdy, that’s an impressive wrecking crew. Unfortunately, we have lost a few.......

The real kicker is that they all shared the same floor back at the hotel.. and the staff still talks about it to this day.
(or at least it's fun to imagine)

I’ve seen that clip many times, but it never gets old.
At one time or another, I think I’ve seen everyone in that group play live, but not all together at one time.
Talk about a Super Group!

I was fortunate to work that event with Clair Brothers. Engineering - not playing. A few tidbits:
The rehearsal was actually more epic than the show. There is footage out there of that...dare you to find me.
Booker T and the MGs were the real backing band.
McGuinn was the one who really knew the song the best. Watch how he and the band really are leading.
Thank God for Teleprompters...not complaining - they get the words correct that way...notice how their eyes are down.
For the first time in recorded history Young asked for the monitors to be turned down...watch
George was the consummate pro and was also very well prepared.
Even among the best there are multiple ways to play a B chord and a G#minor.
It is highly edited and sweetened in post production - not complaining - that is the norm.
Petty screwed up the most in the live take. There are bootlegged versions - watch them.
Bob was just along for the ride.
Privilege to have been on crew.
And yes - it is an epic song at an epic event.

In the full version of the 30th Anniversary Concert, G. E. Smith's performance as musical director is simply amazing. He plays the guitar and bobs and weaves around and under everyone in order to direct them without missing a beat. The full version used to be available for free on YouTube but all i can find are rental versions.

You can see a little of him doing so starting at about 1:58 in the above clip but it's more dramatic in some of the other songs.
