I have an Applause I purchased back in the mid 80's and than stopped playing for a few decades after I got married and got involved in running a business. I'm back in the game now with more free time and am considering moving up to a full fledged Ovation. My Applause developed a crack in the face finish almost immediately and continued to develop more and more as time went on. (See photo) Doesn't seem to be all the way through or effect the sound quailty. I really don't believe there were any environmental issues that should have caused this.

Anyway, my question is should I be concerned that this may be an issue with a newer Ovation? Was told the early Applauses were known for this.

Thanks!

I have two ovation legends both are 15 years old and both are USA made. And they are still in excellent condition , there played regularly and love them both. I would recommend if your in the market for ovation look for a Used USA made guitar there are some nice guitars out there to had. Good luck

True that!! I have some older than that and they are fine. Can't worry about all that. Buy one and play it and love every millisecond! Life is short!!

I agree on all counts. If you watch the ads daily, especially the local ones like Craigslist-type, you just may be astounded at what pops up right there in your own area (not sure where that is though). The good ones disappear as quick as they come, so you have to stay diligent on the hunt. Picking up an older legend or elite (or whatever model) in good condition in 2020 is no less of a joy than receiving that same guitar in years or decades past. Sometime even better since its components are now settled in. Just be careful of the addiction... or not :-)

The 1980's era Legends are probably one of the best values for you dollar,
I'm not a big fan of guitarcenter.com but they don't always know what they've got so you can find some good deals just ask lots of questions...as an example this guitar is actually a Legend Limited I believe and considered a great model https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Ovation/1651-Balladeer-Acoustic-El...

good luck on your search
