I used to be an Ovation warranty repairman for Northern NH and VT in the 80s and early 90s.

I still remember the day dad came home and told me that Charlie wasn't able to buy out any of the shortlist guitar companies he was interested in so he was going to start from scratch and put the some of the company's top engineering talent on the project.

My father was the Research Projects Coordinator For Kaman Aerospace and Helicopters. Bill and his first wife were friends of mine and his sister was in my 4H club. We Kenyons have been involved in the startup of Kaman Helicopters and Kaman Nuclear and fuel cells and more aeronautics products and Ovation instruments from the beginning.

I have a bottomless storehouse of Ovation stories and internal rumors and public misconceptions.

just to start the ball rolling here is a sales titbit from one of the project engineers.

Josh White was a blues guitarist even though his career was more in the folk music arena. In the old blues days he came from, They would record a vinyl master in a bare room with the guitarist about 6-8 ft. out from a corner facing the corner. To have someone hear the full range power of the Ovation when they tested the guitar have them face a hard solid bare corner when they try it out. They will be taken by the great performance output of the Ovation. Josh knew the sound he wanted and Ovation used that as the development baseline.

Yes, I have an original 1967 or 8, Josh White, in my guitar collection.
