Hello,

Question. I have a beautiful 1987 Collectors that is in near mint condition. The back bowl has some marks on it, not scratches or gouges, but white marks that I think are from trying to plug in the Jack while playing. I am a player but I am also a collector and I would like to get the white marks off of the back bowl. Is there something I can do to get the black color back. is it as simple as maybe using a sharpie or is that a bad idea?

Location: Utah		Many a collectible has had its value destroyed by attempts to fix minor issues. If your goal is to preserve $ value, I would do nothing. If the marks bother you to see them, and you enjoy playing the guitar, go ahead and cautiously try to correct them. Since the marks are on the back, you can't ruin the guitar even if the marks look worse after you're done.

Have you tried cleaning them? It may remove or minimize the white marks. You may find a Sharpie to be too shiny. Since Sharpie marks are soluble in alcohol they can be removed if they don't look right.

Location: When??		Sharpie does make a very fine point pen, but sometimes you have to go looking to find them. It will leave much less over-marking than the standard felt Sharpie.
