Location: When?? | Guitar in question is a 1988 CC-13 classical. Twice in the past year the D string (and only the D string) has broken all on its own, though never before in decades past. It's just fine when I hang it up after playing, but broken when I come back the next day (hence the thread title). The string's metal winding breaks at the top end near the nut, leaving a few inches of the internal nylon core strands attached to the headstock spindle, and the rest of the string intact just fine from around the first fret on down. Both times have been quality strings (D'Addario and Martin). So why, oh why? Go figure. Is this common to anyone else? What is happening? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Yes, it's happened to me with the last two sets of strings. The first time it had been years between changes, so I didn't think anything of it and changed the whole set. Then it broke right away and I changed just that string. It broke again after a few weeks and no playing and I need another set. All of them were D'Addarios. I think mine all broke down by the saddle, though. |
