Hello all. I just picked up a gorgeous Adamas W597. Everything seems to be in great working order but when I plugged a mic cable into the xlr input and ran that to an acoustic amp I got no signal. Do I need a special cable for that or is the xlr input on the guitar defective? I'm hoping I'm missing something because I would sure hate to have to return it. Thanks beforehand for any help. Regards, EJ.

As I recall the internal preamp is supplied by a battery and the on/off switching is by inserting a mono 1/4" Jack plug as this will connect the R and S terminals of the TRS socket in your guitar. This is needed even if you use the XLR for the signal. The Jack plug should be mono but does not need a cable. I think Al sells some special fake plugs, but you might start by trying something that you have around to see if that solves the mystery.

You might have the Optima preamp. This is the manual: http://www.ovationtribute.com/Catalogues/Optima_Owner_Manual/Optima...

Thank you for the info. I should have mentioned the guitar has the VIP system installed.

It probably had the OP50 originally. I am not aware if the VIP has XLR out so it might not be connected. Remove the hatch on the back of the bowl (loosen the screw and slide the circular hatch to the side) to see what's inside.

My Adamas 1680 has the VIP preamp and an XLR .I believe you have to have a plug in the 1/4" jack to make it work,at least to activate the preamp to use the tuner I have to have a dummy plug in the 1/4" spot. hope this helps.

The xlr is def hooked up and the system looks factory installed. I'm going to try the 1/4" jack plug and see what happens. Thanks again!
